To celebrate Mother’s Day, I went to A Tutta Pizza!(LA Foodbowl) This event located in the Hollywood Palladium was sponsored by Nissan, Hornitos, Maker’s Mark, and Italia to name a few. La Foodbowl holds fabulous food events all throughout the LA region for the month of May in hope to help raise awareness and funds to combat food waste, hunger, food insecurity, and promote sustainability.
A Tutta Pizza was my first ever food event! I had a lot of fun navigating the scene to make sure I could sample pizza from each of the 20+ pizza vendors on site. Unfortunately, I was not able to achieve that goal, but the next time I attend a similar event I will make sure I visit each table. I enjoyed the carbo-load, and ate every pizza slice in my proximity.
Not only was there unlimited pizza, but LA Foodbowl also had workshops, panels, a photobooth, and a live DJ. I decided to attend the A’ Pizza! A Pizza Lab with Enzo Coccia workshop. There I was taught how to make pizza dough by hand like a true Italian. The workshop was led by Enzo Coccia. He even chose me to help him make deep fried pizza dough. On top of that, I met Jonathan Gold, renown restaurant critic for the LA Times. We even took a picture together.
I was very excited to see that many tables served margarita pizza, which is my favorite. I’m not ashamed to say, I stuffed my face with a few too many slices. As I said above, I attempted to make it around to each table, so I tried a variety of pizza flavors. I even tried pizza topped with purple brussel sprouts! It sounds crazy, but the pizza was both beautiful and tasty. You can’t say I didn’t eat any vegetables. My favorite pizza came from Ray’s and Stark Bar. Their pizza was topped with cute little purple flowers and the cheese was to die for. Personally the most important part of the pizza is cheese, that’s why I love margarita pizza so much. The Ray’s and Stark Bar pizza left a big impression on me and the other guests. It lined traveled across the festival site.

FX CELEBRATES SEASON 2 OF LEGION WITH INSTALLATION BY ACCLAIMED ARTIST MARCO BRAMBILLA STUDIO FROM MARCH 30 – APRIL 1 BEFORE THE S2 PREMIER OF LEGION (FX) TUESDAY, APRIL 3RD AT 10 PM ET/PT
Our aim was to create an experience that would take the viewer through multiple levels of Haller’s altered states of consciousness. A flood of moments, thoughts, and memories are reflected into fragmented mirrored surfaces, these kaleidoscopic reflections completely surround us and we have the sense of assuming the characters’ psychological POV. I produced “Fracture” with THE MILL, the world-renowned Visual Effects & Design Company with whom I’ve worked with many times before. Working together, we were able to achieve start-of-the-art production values for this immersive experience,” artist Marco Brambilla said.
I’m beyond excited to attend the opening of the 360 degree art exhibit of one of my favorite Marvel shows. I was curious when they announced Legion at SDCC two years ago but had no idea what to expect but from the first episode I knew this was unlike any other series on tv. The twists and turns, unexpected emotional connection and well it’s darned scary! Now with the premier just next week I can’t imagine the fan experience that FX has put together for all the lucky fangirls/fanboys in LA but I’m all in!
Any fan of the Marvel series LEGION has seen the madness but now we get to experience it in 360 degrees. Marco Brambilla Studio was inspired to create a one-of-a-kind presentation taking place at the Goya Studios in Hollywood. Fans will experience David’s altered states of reality as they try to figure out whats in their imagination and real as we count down the days to S2 from Noah Hawley, Executive Producer of the surreal drama.
On working with Brambilla, Kenya Hardaway, SVP of Integrated Promotions at FX said, “We are excited to have Marco Brambilla’s amazing artistic piece, FRACTURE, to share with fans of Legion. As admirers of his works, we believed his innovative style could present a new perspective on David Haller’s world. FRACTURE, does just that – captivating the audience through a marvelous visual display.”
o Friday, March 30th – 11AM – 7PM
o Saturday, March 31st – 11AM – 7PM
o Sunday, April 1st – 10AM – 6PM
Goya Studios, Stage C
1541 N. Cahuenga Blvd
Los Angeles, Ca 90028
For more information on how to experience The LEGION Chamber, go to facebook.com/legionfx.
Based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, Legion is the story of “David Haller” (Dan Stevens), a man who believed himself to be schizophrenic only to discover that he may actually be the most powerful mutant the world has ever seen.
From childhood, David shuffled from one psychiatric institution to the next until, in his early 30s, he met and fell in love with a beautiful and troubled fellow patient named “Syd” (Rachel Keller). After Syd and David shared a startling encounter, he was forced to confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real. Syd led David to “Melanie Bird” (Jean Smart), a demanding but nurturing therapist who heads a team of specialists – “Ptonomy” (Jeremie Harris), “Kerry” (Amber Midthunder) and “Cary” (Bill Irwin) – each of whom possesses a unique and extraordinary gift. Together, they helped David to recognize and harness his hidden powers. With their support, David finally unlocked a deeply suppressed truth – he had been haunted his entire life by a malicious parasite of unimaginable power. Known as the “Shadow King,” this malevolent creature appeared in the form of David’s friend “Lenny” (Aubrey Plaza), but is actually an ancient being named “Amahl Farouk.” In an epic showdown, David and his friends battled his demon, ultimately forcing it from David’s body. Unfortunately, Farouk found a new host – Melanie’s husband “Oliver Bird” (Jemaine Clement) – and escaped. Just when they thought they’d earned a moment of respite, a mysterious orb appeared and took David away to an unknown place. With David and Oliver missing and Farouk on the loose, the team forms an unlikely alliance with their former enemy “Clark” (Hamish Linklater) and his well-funded government organization, Division III. Meanwhile, Amahl Farouk (Navid Negahban) is on a new path to attaining infinite and world-ending power.
Noah Hawley serves as Executive Producer, along with John C
ameron, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory. Legion is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the executive producers of the Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winning FX anthology series Fargo. Legion is produced by FX Productions and Marvel Television, with FXP handling the physical production.

I’m such a huge The Tick fan that I’m salivating over the big blue guy takeover at SDCC 2017
I’ve loved the tick from comic book to cartoon to live action and now he’s back with BFF Arthur on Amazon Prime in August! While my fellow Tickers and I count down the day to the new series on Amazon Prime if your in SoCal head to San Diego Comic Con!
Amazon Prime Member Lounge
Amazon is taking over this year with the Amazon Prim Member Lounge (membership has it’s privileges) and celebrating it’s first hero series. It’s going to be ALOT of blue with the fun starting in San Diego on July 20th! Geeks will be able to explore the world of the Tick with the Amazon Prime Video’s Tick Takeover! You can find this celebration of blue zaniness on the MLK Promenade (on the corner of 1st and J Street) that will be hard to miss with a 20 foot tall animatronic Tick head and ‘easter eggs’ that will get lucky fans some cool swag.
Citizens can control the Tick’s emotions with levers that operate the giant 20ft animatronic build as well as a challenge based scavenger hunt to help our dynamic duo fight a group of evil doers. The multi room experience has four locations that fans of the series will remember – Goat’s Deli, Arthur’s Apartment, The Warehouse and The City Police Station.
The Tick Takeover will be open to the public Thursday, July 20th through Saturday, July 22nd from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm, and Sunday, July 23rd from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm at the MLK Promenade (corner of 1st and J street).
The City Police Station
I’m excited that as a Amazon Prime Member we get to stream the pilot episode relaxing in the AC of our own private lounge <tee hee> and unlock digital badges hidden for exclusive member only swag! Matty Mo, the viral art sensation aka ‘the Most Famous Artist’ will create one-of-a-kind art pieces featuring Superian to share an “Instagrammable” moment from The Tick Takeover. The Most Famous Artist will also be responsible for creating and curating all the graffiti tags seen around The City.

Season one of the new Amazon Original series, The Tick is streaming on August 25, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
About The Amazon Original Series, The Tick
Bursting with scabrous original storylines that turn on a dime, The Tick is a comedy with kinetic action, a wryly inventive visual style and crisply quotable dialogue. Heroes have flown among us for decades but mild-mannered accountant Arthur Everest (GRIFFIN NEWMAN) one day finds out there are also genuine bad guys in this new Amazon Original Series. He believes he has proof that The City, where he was born and raised, is actually controlled by a global super-villain known as the Terror (JACKIE EARLE HALEY). Destiny soon brings Arthur together with an eccentric, tall, blue-suited muscleman with a mysterious past and list of superpowers: The Tick (PETER SERAFINOWICZ). The title character serves as both the conscience and the unchecked id of the story. Citing the call of destiny, the Tick procures for Arthur a moth outfit with retractable wings and insists that he suit up as his sidekick. He and Arthur are the ultimate odd couple, but may just bring out the best in each other. In their quest to take back The City, the unlikely pair of heroes quickly sees just how complex the struggle between good and evil has become.

DEFENDERS OF LIFE AT GARIFUNA INTERNATIONAL INDIGENOUS FILM FESTIVAL VENICE, CALIFORNIA ON SUNDAY, MAY 21 AT 7:45PM
The sixth annual Garifuna International Indegenous Film Festival is six days of films from May 12 – 27th. I learned of the festival because of the upcoming screening of ‘Defenders of Life’ from director/writer Dana Ziyasheva and Igor Darbo (Producer) that is set in the Indigenous community of Costa Rica and filmed on location.
I am very interested to learn of the Garifuna International Indigenous Film Festival and am excited to add this to my list of ‘Festivals to Attend’. I love seeing films representing diverse voices and stories that expose me to lives and people. The festival is during the weekend so am hoping to attend a film or two to see from another person’s eye how they see the world around them.
The film will be screened on Sunday, May 21 at 7:45pm at The Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Avenue, Venice, CA 90291with Dana Ziyasheva & Igor Darbo scheduled to attend. If you are unable to attend it is available exclusively on FlixPremiere at https://flixpremiere.com/film/defenders-of-life.
“I am very honored of this selection and excited about the opportunity to present
‘Defenders of Life’ at the Garifuna Film Festival,” said Ziyasheva, a journalist by training and former communications expert with the United Nations. “It is particularly important to me to show the film in the framework of an indigenous art event and next to other films by or about indigenous realities,” added Ziyasheva.

The festival’s mission to preserve and promote Garifuna culture is close to the filmmaker’s heart. “During my career with the United Nations, I worked on the promotion of Garifuna culture in Central America and had the honor of meeting with distinguished representatives of the Garifuna people in the government of Honduras and Nicaragua. I am very much looking forward to discovering the festival’s film selection and meeting with fellow filmmakers,” she added.
Every year, the Garifuna International Indigenous Film Festival connects the Garifuna diaspora from all over the world as well as indigenous communities from across the globe via one of the most powerful art forms: film. Celebrating its sixth annual edition in 2017, GIIFF will kick off May 12th and run through May 27th
. “Defenders of Life” is among more than 27 films selected by the festival, including features and shorts from the U.S., Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Iran, and African and other countries.
Garifuna is a unique culture descended from the only black Africans who fought and succeeded against being enslaved in the American Continent, and who also intermarried with Carib and Arawak people of the Caribbean. They speak their own language, Garifuna, as well as Spanish, Belizean Kriol and English. Garifuna gave the world the gift of the beautiful music and dance called “punta” and have significant populations in Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the United States.
The film festival also welcomes works by, about and for indigenous people from all the continents. “The Garifuna people share so much with indigenous communities from all over the world, so much wisdom, so many stories,” says festival director Freda Sideroff. “We share common stories; we are more alike than we are different.”
Director Ziyasheva agrees. Her film is set among in an indigenous community of Costa Rica and was inspired by people she served as a U.N. worker. “‘Defenders of Life’ was born out of the real-life friendship between Carmen, a Ngäbe matriarch, and myself, a United Nations civil servant from Kazakhstan,” she said.
“When staying at her house, we spent a lot of time talking about her life and her hopes/fears for her daughters and granddaughters. We both wanted to give voice to the voiceless, leaving a proud testimony of her ancient civilization under threat and show the place and challenges of women in this culture. We both wanted it to be aesthetic and allegorical,” said Ziyasheva.
While Carmen is also an actress in the drama, she did more than acting, according to the director. “(She) was more than an actress, she was my collaborator on the film,” said Ziyasheva. “She helped me to direct actors, scout and pick locations and prepare dialogues. I discussed every scene with her. We also involved the entire community and its leaders; on occasion, more than 100 extras took part in the filming.”
Limited with a four-man crew, Ziyasheva had to be resourceful in the making of “Defenders of Life.” “I was not only my own assistant but also production designer, wardrobe, makeup, and driver,” she stated. “This was because of the budget constraints, but mainly because it would not have been feasible otherwise. We were outsiders granted unique access to this closed society.”
The project relied totally on the trust her team built with the community. “We could not disrupt the balance of their lives with a large crew, gear trucks, etc.,” she said. “That was one condition of theirs for allowing us to make the film, along with having all their dialogue spoken in the Ngäbe native language, rather than Spanish. They knew and accepted each one of us into their private spaces and homes, and we lived on site the entire time of the shoot,” she added.
This year’s festival theme is “Remembering the Garifuna Holocaust” to pay tribute to the early Garifuna warriors that died for their people’s freedom 220 years ago, according to festival director Freda Sideroff. The Garifuna people are descendants of the only black Africans in the American continent who successfully fought against being enslaved, “paying the ultimate price, the death of many, and the relocation of resilient survivors,” said Sideroff.
“We are a resilient, proud people that have survived atrocities,” stated Sideroff, a Garifuna immigrant from Belize. “Like many indigenous communities all over the world, today we still face many challenges and find our culture and way of life under threat. But our ancestors inspire and guide us with their example and wisdom.”
She added, “We must remember their sacrifice and treasure our priceless Garifuna language, culture and history.”
