“Jack Kirby’s 2001: A Space Odyssey comics were pure Kosmic Kirby at the top of his craft, expanding on the 2001 story in ways not even masters like Kubrick or Clarke could have imagined,” says Kirby Museum Acting Director, Rand Hoppe. “We can’t wait for fans to have their minds blown by the stories AND the visuals.”
If your in the NYC area you have to check out the “A Jack Kirby Odyssey” from May 11-13! It’s a celebration of the King of Comics’ pop-up exhibiting Arther C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey at One Art Space (23 Warren Street, NYC). It’s in celebration of the cinematic masterpiece with a giant reproduction, never seen before pencil art and multimedia presentations.
“The comics on display for A Jack Kirby Odyssey were painstakingly reproduced from the photocopies of Kirby’s pencil art,” adds Kirby Museum President, Tom Kraft. “The oversized comics at our Kirby 100 birthday celebration at One Art Space were big hits. We expect people will love seeing Kirby’s cosmic pencil art at large size, too.”
Jack Kirby 100 Highlights Include:
5pm – Opening Celebration
1pm – The Jack’d Kirby podcast live!
5pm – Kubrick and Kirby: Mind-Breakers. Hoppe and Romberger in Conversation
7pm – Fake Church with Geoff Grimwood. Improv Comedy!
2pm – Norton’s Odyssey – audio-visual dramatic reading of issues #5&6
4pm – The New Seed! – audio-visual dramatic reading of issue #7
5pm – Closing Celebration
The Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center is organized exclusively for educational purposes; more specifically, to promote and encourage the study, understanding, preservation, and appreciation of the work of Jack Kirby. Kirby 100 marks our third pop-up event in New York City and we regularly travel the US and Europe putting on and assisting exhibitions and lectures about Mr. Kirby’s life and art.

I’m a huge fan of the Librarians so have been watching John Harlan Kim starring as ‘Ezekiel Jones’ the thief with a heart of gold since episode one. His character growth has delighted me as a character who’s self confidence and general nice ‘bad boy’ had me crushing! Sadly I’m on the west coast but all of my East Coast nerds can head to the Baltimore Comic-Con to see him, artists, cosplayers, fans and buy well … Comic Books! This years the BCC is on September 22-24, 2017 at the Baltimore Convention Center in the Inner Harbor. You can still purchase tickets to attend The Baltimore Comic-Con and maybe meet/greet John Harlan Kim from TNT’s The Librarians.
“I am a HUGE fan of The Librarians,” said Marc Nathan, promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “This late addition to the show is really exciting, and fans of the show are going to be as thrilled as I am to get to meet John.”
Kim previously completed a series regular role on the iconic Australian series Neighbours as “Dale ‘Macca’ McGregor”, a popular but mischievous high school student who loves to stir up trouble. His additional credits include Steven Spielberg’s miniseries The Pacific for DreamWorks and HBO.
Dynamite Entertainment, which will be exhibiting at the show in Booth #2010, are launching a comic series of The Librarians, where John will be supporting the book. A Baltimore Comic-Con exclusive cover will be available for sale at the show, perfect for getting autographs!
John Harlan Kim currently stars as a series regular on Dean Devlin’s TNT series The Librarians, a follow up to the network’s hit movie trilogy starring Noah Wyle. The series centers on four ordinary people with extraordinary talents who are recruited to work at an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library. Together they solve impossible mysteries, fight supernatural threats, and recover powerful artifacts from around the world. John plays “Ezekiel Jones”, the cocky but likable youngest member of the Librarians who is a master of new technologies, aficionado of old classic crimes, and who fancies himself an international man of mystery.
In the coming weeks, look for more announcements from the Baltimore Comic-Con. We are looking forward to highlighting our guests, industry exclusives, and programming. The latest developments can always be found on our website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages

Radio Imagination: Artists in the Archive of Octavia E. Butler is a group exhibition organized by the Los Angeles-based not-for-profit organization Clockshop. The exhibition debuts 6 new commissions inspired by the Octavia E. Butler papers at the Huntington Library. The exhibition is part of Clockshop’s year-long program throughout 2016 celebrating the life and work of Pasadena science fiction writer Octavia E. Butler (1947-2006).
Octavia E. Butler was a bestselling and award-winning author, receiving both the Hugo and Nebula Awards for her groundbreaking science fiction, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from PEN West. She was the first Black woman to achieve international prominence in the genre, and is the first and only writer of science fiction to earn a MacArthur “genius” Fellowship. With Black female protagonists, radical notions of kinship, and a keen understanding of power dynamics, Butler’s writing revamped the conventions of the science fiction genre. Ultimately, her work suggested new ways of thinking and new models of working for generations of writers and artists to come. 2016 marks the 10-year anniversary of Butler’s death.
Radio Imagination debuts new work by Laylah Ali, Malik Gaines and Alexandro Segade, Lauren Halsey, Mendi + Keith Obadike, Connie Samaras, and Cauleen Smith—contemporary artists working in performance, sound, installation, photography, drawing, and video. Forming an unprecedented collaboration with Clockshop, the Huntington Library in San Marino granted these artists access to work in Butler’s archive. The Octavia E. Butler Collection at the Huntington Library consists of 8,000 individually cataloged items and more than 80 boxes of additional ephemera. Materials range from Butler’s very first short stories, written at age 12, to manuscripts, photographs, and Butler’s collection of inspirational quotes. The commissioned artists comprise an intergenerational group of emerging and established artists, each with an affinity for Butler’s work and a long-standing interest in her oeuvre.

I’ve gone to the dark side for the Star Wars Half Marathon on January 17th in Anaheim next weekend and am sharked that I’m all about Darth Vader! If you plan to do the run next weekend make sure that you check out the REVISED RunDisney rules as far as cosplay goes because (I’m sad to say) no super fun costumes this year . So to stay on the safe side I will not be going as a Jedi or as Endor (no Ewoks for YOU) and had looked at some running pants that were printed but I’m frugal so didn’t want to spend too much money for items that would be too distracting at the gym. I decided going all black would be a good compromise to my not being able to wear Jedi robes. I am a bit curious about rather anyone will try to wear a full outfit but I won’t take a chance. I am very disappointed since a big part of the fun is seeing all of the other fans dress up in cosplay as you run or walk (or in my case) around Disney in the dark with all the rides lit up. It’s quite the sight and is enough to make anyone’s tiny little grinch heart grow three times as you walk around the park!
What are you doing to comply with the new rules? Let me know!

HBO® and Brewery Ommegang to re-release first two beers in popular Game of Thrones® collaboration has the PERFECT gift for the GOT Fan and Ale/Stout Connoisseur!
Brewery Ommegang & HBO show Game of Thrones – Iron Throne Blonde Ale and Take the Black Stout
It’s the rerelease of the first two brews in the collaboration series not seen since King Joffrey’s wicked reign! This is a great addition for anyone who wants to play the Game of Thrones
aka who will rule the Seven Kingdom. Brewery Ommegang‘s beer finder
will show retail and bar locations by zip code when the beers come to market.
Iron Throne Blonde Ale has a slightly hazy golden amber hue. The head is full and fluffy. The finish is crisp, backed by a touch of spice and hops. The aroma is a bit grassy with a hint of lemon fruitiness from the lemon peel. The taste is lightly malty, rounded by honey malt sweetness. Iron Throne Blonde Ale is 6.5% ABV.
Take the Black Stout is deep black in hue, with a full tan head. Aromas include dark chocolate, caramel malt, earthy hops, and a touch of fruitiness. Tastes include chocolate, dark coffee, and rich malt character. The beer has light, balanced roastiness aroma and taste. The clean hop bitterness converges with a slight woody character and spiciness. The finish offers sweet malt character giving way to spicy, earthy, hop bitterness. Take the Black Stout is 7.0% ABV.
This is a major treat since Iron Throne Blonde Ale was released in 2013 and brewed at only 25% of the volume of the most recent beer the Three-Eyed Raven, which hit stores this spring timed to Season 5 of the show. Bottle shops across the country sold out in days, while bars poured through kegs in hours. Take the Black Stout was brewed at twice the volume of Iron Throne and still sold out quickly. Fans who missed out on both of these popular brews, and those who can’t wait to try them again, will finally have a chance this fall.
“We had no idea what the reaction to a Game of Thrones beer would be when this all started,” said Bill Wetmore, Marketing Director for Brewery Ommegang. “We were blown away by the runaway success of these first two beers and are very excited to give loyal fans another chance to enjoy them.”

Impractical Jokers — truTV.com Four comedians and lifelong friends compete to embarrass each other out amongst the general public with a series of hilarious and outrageous dares.
I’m so excited to see the stars of truTV’s Impractical Jokers – Q, Murr, Joe and Sal again next week at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con with the new fan art exhibit! I LOVE fan art and can’t imagine what zany items the guys received!
I got to interview Q, Joe and Murr at the SDCC 2013 (via YouTube interviews) and found them not only funny but cute! Sadly all of them were take BUT that was two years ago and I’m single again so am on the prowl again for the geek of my dreams! bwa ha ha!!
I plan to check out the Museum of Impractical History at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts Gallery (363 5th Ave #102, San Diego, CA 92101). All in time to get ready the new season on TruTV starting July 16, Thursday at 10PM ET/PT. It’s open to the public during SDCC from Thursday, July 9 to Sunday, July 12 with a full schedule of fun for new and old fans! Q, Murr, Joe and Sal will be present at various times throughout the exhibition, which will feature fan-generated artwork and show artifacts from some of the most legendary moments in Impractical Jokers history. So head over before going to the convention on Thursday, July 9 at 10 am with a “Don’t Go Hungry on the Way to the Con” activation which will supply visitors with a complimentary Impractical Jokers-themed breakfast (Murr-ito anyone?) until noon, then beginning at 4:00 p.m., fans will be offered bite-sized snacks after a long day of panels, before closing at 7:00 p.m.
Throughout the exhibition, fans will have an opportunity to experience themed activations each day that they will recognize from popular Impractical Jokers moments, including portraits from caricature artists, spray paint tattoos chosen randomly by a spin from the Wheel of Doom, and an interactive photo booth that will put fans alongside The Jokers. A full list of activations can be found below.
Additionally, on Friday July 10 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. visitors to the museum will be treated to an Impractical Jokers comic book signing with Q, Sal, Joe, and Murr. The comic book, The Secret Origin of truTV’s Impractical Jokers, is a reissue from a limited partnership run with DC Comics Entertainment and features an original story and new imagery from the series.
“Instead of waiting for the Smithsonian, MoMA or the Getty Center to finally launch a wing dedicated to the art of daring your best friends to embarrass themselves in public (seriously, what’s taking so long?), we decided to create the Museum of Impractical History ourselves to celebrate four successful seasons of the show and to give something back to the viewers who’ve been so supportive,” said Raymond Dooley, Vice President of Marketing at truTV. “We can’t wait for Sal, Q, Murr and Joe to invade San Diego and personally thank and reward their biggest fans with exclusive Impractical Jokers experiences just days before new episodes begin airing July 16.”
Impractical Jokers’ fourth season returns with new episodes on truTV on Thursday, July 16 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Fans who visit the museum will also be given access to a free iTunes download of the mid-season premiere. In each episode, Q, Murr, Joe and Sal compete to embarrass each other in a series of hilariously humiliating challenges and outrageous dares, all to the amusement and consternation of the general public.
