Fans will also be able to go behind the scenes of the TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT film line, as well as the movie Masterpiece Collection. In addition, members of the TRANSFORMERS team will host a Q&A session to answer some of your burning questions.

Other exciting TRANSFORMERS brand booth activities include a poster giveaway for TRANSFORMERS: GENERATIONS, along with a glimpse at upcoming products across the TRANSFORMERS portfolio.

 

MY LITTLE PONY

The MY LITTLE PONY brand is returning to Comic-Con this year with extra special activities for everypony as Hasbro anticipates the exciting premiere of MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE, which will be released by Lionsgate on October 6th. Making her premiere at the Hasbro booth will be a dazzling eight-foot tall statue of Songbird Serenade; fans can get up close to the new character, voiced by singer-songwriter Sia in MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE. Fans can also dive into Seaquestria with a one-of-a-kind photo opportunity or get “Ponified” at the Hasbro booth at special “Ponification Stations” where make-up artists will apply Cutie Marks and “ponified” hair and nails for fans of all ages.

The MY LITTLE PONY panel on Friday at 10:30 a.m. will feature the cast and creatives behind MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE and will include a sneak peek at the upcoming film followed by a Q&A. Word around Equestria is that there may be a surprise guest! After the panel, fans can meet the MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC voice talent for an autograph signing in the Hasbro booth.

 

Other exciting MY LITTLE PONY brand booth activities include giveaways each day, nail art demos featuring China Glaze’s new MY LITTLE PONY nail polish collection, autograph signings with voice talent, Little Brown authors and Enjoi Skateboarding artists, a live drawing session with IDW artists, and more.

 

MAGIC: THE GATHERING
This year, MAGIC: THE GATHERING fans will be treated to a series of high profile autograph sessions at the Hasbro Booth with game designer James Wyatt at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, head designer Mark Rosewater at 10:00 a.m. and artist Tyler Jacobson at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, and artist Brandon Holt at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Holt illustrated the screen print of Nicol Bolas, produced in collaboration with Mondo and part of the brand’s Comic-Con exclusive 2017 Planeswalker Pack. The exclusive also includes six Planeswalker cards with artwork from Vincent Proce. The set will retail for $180 and is available at the Hasbro Toy Shop.

Rosewater will also appear at a one-man panel on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Room 25ABC in which he re-creates his popular blog about MAGIC: THE GATHERING, “Blogatog,” and participates in an audience Q&A.

 

MARVEL
Hasbro will offer fans several exciting brand experiences surrounding their favorite Super Heroes

and Villains from the MARVEL Universe. On Saturday, July 22nd from 5:00pm-6:00pm, Hasbro and MARVEL will discuss exciting news around Hasbro’s popular MARVEL Legends lineup. Attendees will also get a sneak peek at upcoming MARVEL action figures, followed by a Q&A.

Additional Hasbro MARVEL brand booth activities include an autograph session with Joe Quesada – comic book artist and editor, Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment, and Executive Producer of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and MARVEL’S Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. Joe also provided new original art for Hasbro’s MARVEL LEGENDS SERIES 12 INCH DAREDEVIL convention exclusive. STAR WARS
Hasbro will share its latest STAR WARS news from a galaxy far, far away with fans from 1:00pm-2:00pm on Friday, July 21st, providing an in-depth look at Hasbro’s latest action figure offerings and several fun surprises including a special product reveal. The Hasbro STAR WARS team and designers will also host a Q&A with fans in the audience following the presentation to address the latest product news.

At the Hasbro booth, fans can partake in daily Lightsaber Training, show off their best Star Wars cosplay at the STAR WARS Costume Showcase and will also have the chance to get their hands on a poster giveaway (while supplies last) only available at the Hasbro booth in collaboration with diorama artist Stephen Hayford.

Amazon is going to teach kids to love reading books

I am very interested in how Amazon is using it’s positive business practices to instill a love of reading for kids between 5-12 with unlimited access to short stories for $2.99 a month. Amazon Studios is partnering with Signature Stories to bring stories to life with the voice acting talents of Aidy Bryant (Saturday Night Live) and Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants). They are using new stories that kids love like Niko and the Sword of Light and Danger & Eggs to the app.

The launch will be at the 2017 San Diego Comic Con where they will have the opportunity to see the videos and listen to the talent behind this app. Kids will be able to read along with favorite characters with original stories written by the shows’ writers. They will be new adventures that go beyond the TV series storylines that light the imagination of children.

“We couldn’t be more excited to kick off Signature Stories and are thrilled to be teaming up with great talent such as Aidy Bryant and Tom Kenny,” said Michael Robinson, Director of Consumer Products for Amazon Education. “We’re always looking for ways to help kids develop a love of reading and we’re looking forward to bringing on new brands, new characters, and new voices to Amazon Rapids over the coming months.”

Fans can get free “intergalactic” rides throughout the Gaslamp District in pedicabs inspired by the design of the U.S.S. Discovery’s captain’s chair. The pedicabs will feature the series’ chair’s distinctive stitched black seats as well as video monitors built into its arm rests which, in this case, will screen trailers for the highly anticipated new show. As an added touch, each vehicle will display an illuminated U.S.S. Discovery delta shield on the back.

Fans can take part in the #TrekDiscovery Challenge when they encounter an array of authentically costumed Trek ambassadors, representing crews from five of the Star Trektelevision series (The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyagerand Enterprise). Peanuts is bringing tokidoki to

San Diego Comic Con

The Peanuts Pop-Up store will have limited edition prints, pins and tote bags from the artist Simone Legno of tokidoki and dozens of style visionaries featuring Snoopy & Belle. Fans of the iconic character will seem them in a whole new way. 

Colleen Atwood paid homage to two of the films for which she won Oscars by transforming Snoopy into the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland and Belle into a Geisha girl from Memoirs of a Geisha.

The San Diego Comic Con debut of the traveling exhibition “Snoopy & Belle In Fashion” at a pop-up store in the Gaslamp district will feature 26 dolls selected from collection of 65 designs. The carefully curated collection of 10′ vinyl Snoopy & Belle dolls in mini-couture fashion will appeal to Peanuts fans, cosplayers (great style ideas) and those who love high fashion! The one-of-a-kind designs will be a huge hit and is free and open to the public. 

“Snoopy & Belle in Fashion” premiered to the industry at New York Fashion Week in September of 2014 and ever since has crisscrossed the world with stops in Paris, Amsterdam, Tokyo and Mexico City. The San Diego debut will be the first time the exhibit will be open to the general public and comic con attendees from around the world. It will travel to Brookfield Place in New York this September 2017.

I have to say that every year I’m impressed with the fan experience the History channel brings for the Vikings series. I will always remember the snakes <shiver> and now this Viking Funeral taking place on Friday, 7/21 from 7-8PM has me ready to go to Valhalla!

How often will you get to see a 45 foot longship set ablaze on the San Diego Bay for a epic funeral ceremony???? That would be never! This fan experience will honor beloved fan favorite characters with a funeral procession through the Gaslamp Quarter (12 – 5:45PM). So head to the San Diego Bay and get ready to grieve like a viking!

VIKINGS FUNERAL – Friday, July 21 from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m., Embarcadero Marina Park South
A one-day event to honor Ragnar Lothbrok and other beloved characters who have recently risen toValhalla. The Vikings funeral will begin with a procession throughout the Gaslamp Quarter in the early afternoon from noon – 5:45 p.m. The funeral will conclude with a waterfront ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. featuring a floating 45-foot replica Viking long-ship with pyrotechnic display. Cast will be in attendance. Ceremony will be held behind the Convention Center at Embarcadero Marina Park South (200 Marina Park Way).

VIKINGS HORNS
The popular “Vikings” drinking horn program returns, giving thousands of horn-shaped beer vessels to eager and thirsty fans. Select bars will offer special drink discounts for horn holders. Please follow @HistoryVikings for a complete list of participating locations. The horns will be made available to fans who attend the Vikings funeralevent on Friday, July 21 at 7 p.m.

VIKINGS “WARRIOR’S ALLEGIANCE” CONVENTION CENTER BOOTH – July 19-23 – Booth #4215
A new generation of warriors is rising in the Vikings world and fans have the opportunity to be immersed in it by showing off their swordplay in a video booth. Fans will get into character by selecting their weapon of choice and garbing themselves in Viking gear. A time-slice camera array will capture footage of each fan demonstrating their best battle moves with Ragnar’s sons – Bjorn, Ivar the Boneless, Ubbe and Hvitserk. Video will be available to share on social platforms.

Also available to fans while supplies last is a custom “Vikings” limited edition comicbook from a story created by Michael Hirst, exclusively for SDCC.

“Knightfall: Guardians of the Gear” – July 20-23 – MLK Promenade
HISTORY is setting the stage for SDCC attendees to discover its newest drama series “Knightfall” before it premieres by offering an essential service that is new to the convention – “Knightfall: Guardians of the Gear.” The Holy Grail required protection of the Knights Templar, and SDCC attendees can count on that same protection for their own personal belongings by storing them in HISTORY’s “Knightfall: Guardians of the Gear.” Located along the MLK Promenade in the Gaslamp Quarter, our knights will guard attendees swag while they explore the rest of ComicCon.

Additionally at the activation location, attendees will get to take a photo with the Knights Templar, watch a sneak peek of HISTORY’s newest drama series “Knightfall” and preview the Knightfall: Rivals video game on Steam Platform™, coming soon on mobile. Nerds Like Us at SDCC 2017 for the hero and rebel in us all

This year you can dance and party with Dante Basco (Rufio in HOOK, Prince Zuko in AVATAR: the Last Airbender) spinning some hot tunes at the Comic Con after party on Thursday night. Doors open shortly before 9PM when they debut of his shot film Bangarang (Rufio Origins) with a Q&A with cast and director. I’m ready to TRY to escape with the ‘Expanse’ at San Diego Comic Con 2017
Alcon Television Group has an Escape Room with a theme from one of my favorite SyFy series The Expanse. Attendees get to play as operatives that are trapped on a derelict spaceship with system failure as two teams with 4 or 5 players in a race against time on the ship searching for the ‘Protomolecule’ for SCIENTIFIC research, try to avoid being infected and the life support ends!
The Expanse Escape Room will have props from the set, personalized photo and prizes for those who manage to escape with their lives and viable sample of the ‘Protomolecule’.
The Expanse Escape Room is scheduled for Thursday, July 20 – Sunday, July 23 in the lot between 2nd Avenue and J street (no badges are required).

Children’s Book Council (CBC) Graphic Novel Committee Programming During San Diego Comic-Con

I grew up living at the library as a child in my hometown where I explored not only big cities but the universe. Now that kids have so many options for entertainment and accessing content how do libraries stay relevant in a digital age? Heck how do books stay relevant for kids who grow up watching, using a cellphone/tablet or other device to read? I’m pretty old fashioned since I love the tactile feel of a book, seeing the cover and font chosen by the author. 

I am very interested in the Children’s book Council (CBC) Graphic Novel Committee Programming at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. I loved reading comic books/graphic novels when I was young and discovering Manga when I got older. I was quite surprised when I was at the library that they had a section for checkout that looked in great condition (and they say people don’t respect the library).

They have a program lineup from 11 AM to 6 PM on Friday, July 11th for Educators, librarians, and media welcome with a ComicCon badge

“Prose to Panels: Graphic Novel Adaptations” – 3:00p.m. – 4:00p.m.
A discussion about graphic novel adaptations of novels. How can the graphic novel format enhance these texts? And how can educators use adaptations to make stories more accessible? If you read the graphic novel instead of the prose novel does it still “count”? How does the story change if a classic is adapted into graphic novel format? Is something lost? Is something gained? And what if graphic novels are then converted into prose novels – as with the forthcoming Lumberjanes novels?
