This is such a great opportunity to see Studio Ghibli’s most iconic film (and characters) in this beloved family classic ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ from legendary director Hayao Miyazaki. The animated film is about two young girls, Satsuki and Mei who move with their father to a new house in the countryside. But country life is not so simple as it seems, as they soon discover the house and nearby woods are full of strange and delightful creatures, most notably a family of Totoros, gigantic but gentle bear-like forest spirits that can only be seen by children. The Totoros introduce the girls to a series of new adventures, including a ride aboard the Cat Bus, in this all-ages animated masterpiece that brought Studio Ghibli and Japanese animation to a new global audience.

You will be able to see two versions. One will be dubbed in English on June 25 and subtitled on June 26, this special two-day event will also feature GKIDS Mini-Fest, an ongoing festival of the best animated shorts from around the world.

laapff banner.pngI’m so excited about the upcoming Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival this April 27th with films that represent diversity from across the world. I’ve attended over the years and have always been impressed by the selection of films form comedy to documentary to drama that truly represent the diversity that often is overlooked in entertainment. I also recommend attendance of the C3 Conference that will focus on Future Forward a full day of panels with creatives from behind the camera talking issues that are important to those starting out in the business as well as established creatives.

I’m geek fangirling with the newest DC Comics Justice League moving premiering on DVD/BluRay/Digital HD on February 7th but if you are in Los Angeles or NYC you can enjoy a special viewing and Q&A with cast and producers. I grew up loving Justice League and have been very happy with the DC series. They can be a little dark and violent but since they are geared towards an older fan based the stories have some adult themes. I have also been incredibly impressed with the writing and direction of the films. They have taken classic characters we grew up with and have enriched the story as well as given them a more contemporary look and attitude to appeal to casual fans as well. Now that they have decided to ‘reboot’ Constantine and begin to bring him into the TV/Animation family it will give new fans of the character an opportunity to get to know him as well as old fans some major nerd love. I’m hoping to chat with Matt Ryan again since I interviewed him (and the cast) at SDCC for Constantine (NBC) a series that I feel did not get the time to find an audience that it deserved.

I’m so excited about the Justice League Dark that is the latest  DC Universe Original Movie that is premiering at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills on January 23, 2017  and at the Director’s Guild of America in New York on February 2, 2017. Fans are able to attend the screening and stay for the filmmakers and members of the voice cast  post-screening panel discussion. Matt Ryan (Constantine, The Halcyon), the voice of Constantine, and Nicholas Turturro (NYPD Blue, Blue Bloods), the voice of Deadman, will attend both the Los Angeles and New York premieres and take part in the panel discussions along with supervising producer James Tucker, director Jay Oliva and character designer Phil Bourassa. Ray Chase (Final Fantasy XV videogame), the voice of Jason Blood/Etrigan, joins the World Premiere festivities in Los Angeles. Additional talent participating at the two premieres will be announced as confirmed.

Justice League Dark …

When innocent civilians begin committing unthinkable crimes across Metropolis, Gotham City and beyond, Batman must call upon mystical counterparts to eradicate this demonic threat to the planet. Enter Justice League Dark, reluctantly led by the Hellblazer himself, John Constantine. Like Batman, Constantine is a cunning, often cynical loner who is the best at his chosen profession – but quickly realizes the sinister forces plaguing the planet will require help from other supernatural alliances. Forming a new “league” with sorceress Zatanna, otherworldly Deadman, and Jason Blood and his powerful alter ego Etrigan the Demon, this team of Dark Arts specialists must unravel the mystery of Earth’s supernatural plague and contend with the rising, powerful villainous forces behind the siege – before it’s too late for all of mankind.

Latest DC Universe Original Movie to Debut in LA (1/23/17) and NYC (2/2/17);

Limited Free Tickets Available to Fans on First Come, First Served Basis

Both screenings will begin at 7:00 pm. The Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles is located at 465 North Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills. The Director’s Guild of America is located at 110 West 57th Street in New York City.

A limited number of free tickets are available to the general public. Please note that Justice League Dark is Rated R for “some disturbing violence.” Anyone under 17 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Fans wishing to receive free tickets to the Los Angeles event on January 23 must RSVP via email to JLDarkLA@gmail.com.

Fans wishing to receive free tickets to the New York event on February 2 must RSVP via email to JLDarkNY@gmail.com.

The body of all fan RSVP emails need ONLY include the (1) name of the entrant, (2) valid email address, and (3) name of the media outlet/website by which the entrant learned of the screening, and the number of tickets being requested (limit four per entry). Fans should keep their entry simple – here’s an example of exactly how the body of the RSVP email should appear:

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 10.48.42 PMAre you a Star Wars loving lego enthusiast? Well  Disney XD’s new animated television show, LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, is the show for you. It’s a 22 minute series voiced by Vanessa Lengies, Nicolas Cantu, Eugene Byrd, and Matthew Wood.

The Freemakers
gives the audience a new story focused on a scavenger family, the Freemakers. They are a family of three, and the youngest member, Rowan, is extremely strong with the force. As many fans of the infamous series know, when a character is strong with the force the audience can expect multiple hi jinxes. It’s a new story, that doesn’t feature Leia and Luke Skywalker as the main protagonists. But original fan favorites are still featured; Luke and Leia made their first appearance in episode 5 and Darth Vader and Darth Sidious, formerly Palpatine, made their first appearance in episode 1.

The Freemakers salvage parts from destroyed or abandoned ships and use the parts to create new ones, that they then sale to earn a living. But when Rowan discovers an ancient artifact, the Kyber Saber, he discovers his connection to the force. He is then mentored by a seemingly good-intentioned jedi named Naare. This scavenger family is now in the middle of the battle between the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance. As there is a search for the Kyber Saber crystals where good and bad are compete to find the crystals. And all is not as it seems.

This show is very interesting and it captivates the audience’s attention from the first scene. All in episode one the viewer will discover so much, and there are multiple introductions of characters, ships, and themes. All in episode one the viewer will discover that Naare doesn’t have good intentions with Rowan and is actually with the Empire.

Overall this a great show and the visuals are what the audience should expect from a lego based television show. It stays true to what is expected from a show with such a strong fan base, it introduces new and old characters that viewers will come to love.

The next episode airs July 18 on Disney XD at 10:00 AM.

Tonight is the  Los Angeles premiere of Batman: Bad Blood (clip)!

frame-082495I am looking forward to interviewing the entire Bat “family” on the red carpet  — Jason O’Mara (Batman), Yvonne Strahovski (Batwoman), Sean Maher (Nightwing), Gaius Charles (Batwing) and Stuart Allan (Robin) — along with Travis Willingham (voice of The Heretic) and filmmakers: producer James Tucker, director Jay Oliva and character designer Phil Bourassa at the Paley Center for Media (465 North Beverly Drive) as well as seeing the screening at 7pm! I’ll post my interviews on Cherrylosangles @youtube

About Batman: Bad Blood

The mysterious disappearance of Batman (voice of Jason O’Mara), coupled with the emergence of powerful and malevolent new villains in Gotham City, force Nightwing (Maher) and Robin (Stuart Allan) to take crime-fighting into their own hands – while simultaneously searching for their missing leader. They’re not alone for long. New super heroes Batwoman (Strahovski) and Batwing (Gaius Charles) – each armed with her/his own sensibilities, physical abilities and crime-fighting tools – arrive in Gotham to assist in the cause. As this new “family” strives to find its own dynamic, chilling clues lead the group to suspect the Dark Knight may have gone over to the dark side. It’s up to the entire Bat team to uncover the truth before Gotham City falls prey to its greatest threat yet.

Produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, Batman: Bad Blood will be distributed by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on February 2, 2016.

Spoiler Alert! The new mid season premier of Star Wars Rebels returns on Wednesday, January 20 (9PM ET/PT) on Disney XD.

cid:image004.jpg@01D14EF8.967CEB00

*SPOILER ALERT* Here’s a New Mid-Season Trailer for “Star Wars Rebels”… I mean how can any Star Wars fan not <squeel> with Princess Leia, Yoda and Darth Vader expanding on the series as we explore the call of the dark side? If you have not been enjoying the series I say you’ve been missing out on a show that appeals to a fanboy/fangirl in a different way than my beloved Clone Wars. The decision to use a different animation style and new characters expands the universe. You don’t have to LOVE Star Wars to be a fan of the action packed series. The first season focused on introducing each character with unique backstories that didn’t feel like a blue print of the original or new trilogy. Instead they forged a new path that is a fun show for all ages. I know it’s on Disney XD so you may think it’s just for kids but once you watch the show you’ll see that it’s a truly all age series perfect to watch as a family or alone. So get ready to enjoy a series that has a darker feel than you’d expect from Disney XD but EXACTLY what you wanted as a Jedi!

Geek Gift Conventions

If you want to give a fun unique gift to impress the geek in your life you can never go wrong with a pass to any number of conventions in the USA. Depending on rather it’s a local convention that is all about Anime, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Steampunk or (the original) Comic Books you can find one that a fan will be delighted to attend. Now I do not recommend promising a high profile ticket (for example) San Diego Comic Con (unless you want to try for 2017) but you should have no problem grabbing passes for the following (once they go on sale):

Wondercon

DragonCon

New York Comic Con

Walker Stalker Con

Gaslight Gathering (Steampunk)

Emerald City Comic Con

Wizard World Comic Con – Chicago

Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo

Supernatural Official Convention

Rose City Comic Con

Star Wars Celebration

St. Valentine’s Day Horror Con – C4

Star Trek Official Convention

E3 – Electronic Entertainment Expo

Indiecade – International Festival of Independent Games

Balticon

Texas Comic Con

Gallifrey One (Dr. Who)

Tokyo Comic Con

These are a few that I personally attend are on my list to checkout with a variety of prices and don’t forget if it’s out of town make a hotel reservation early so that your close to all the action. As you can see some are regional and others are one themed but they are all a blast where you can be yourself either dressing in cosplay or wearing a beloved tshirt with people who ‘know’ or just finally getting to meet the cast and crew of beloved tv/movies surrounded by other fans.

Oh dang, is that a fight breaking out in the Thirsty Step? Tap-to-scan and let's check it out!

By tapping once on individual photos, fans can discover tags, which act as portals to different worlds and collectibles. The experience takes advantage of Instagram’s new HD upload standard, with every level, image and video in beautiful 1080p HD quality.  Returning this summer on Adult Swim, Rick and Morty are back with more sci-fi adventures and family squabbles! Can the family survive Rick’s insanity and all the chaos the universe throws at them? Learn this ins with season premier.

Created and executive produced by Dan Harmon (Community) and Roiland (Adventure Time), season two of Rick and Morty premieres this Sunday, July 26th at 11:30pm E/P on Adult Swim.
