Set phasers on STUN and fall in love with Star Trek celebrating 50 years!
It’s been fifty years since Gene Roddenberry graced TV (CBS) with Star Trek a series that appealed to the hope in all of us. Over the years we’ve seen the series change with new captains, aliens and moral questions but it always had the Prime Directive steering the crew as they explored galaxyrather making new friends, making alien love OR fighting enemies!
So imagine my excitement when I saw the first stop for the Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years exhibition touring the world at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts in San Diego’s Gaslamp District (363 Fifth Ave #102, San Diego, CA 92101).
I was able to speak with Jorge Ferreiro (SVP & Creative Director) who curated the exhibition and two of the artists about their contributions to the Star Trek Art Exhibit at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con (Take a tour of the exhibition at Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts in San Diego).
Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years.
The Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years exhibit debuted on Wednesday July 20, 2016 at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts in San Diego’s Gaslamp District (363 Fifth Ave #102, San Diego, CA 92101). The exhibition was created to commemorate the brand’s milestone anniversary. Featuring Star Trek-inspired works by 50 artists from around the globe, including the last piece created by Leonard Nimoy, the exhibit will include original 2D and 3D pieces by the artists, who selected a variety of mediums — illustrations, photographs, sculptures, paintings, graphics and more — to express their love of the franchise and the inspiration gained from it. In addition to artists from the collection, Nimoy’s son Adam was in attendance for interviews at the opening night.
Am I the only one that thinks Spock is more of a dog alien?
Leave a comment below on what’s your favorite piece from the collection and if you plan to make a special trip to see it when it’s traveling!

I know I’m not the only one excited about the 2015 PaleyFest LA in March! It’s an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of your favorite shows. This year has me gobsmacked with just about every show I watch (exception Girls, Homeland, American Horror Story and casual watcher of Modern Family and Outlander is on my ‘to watch list’ ) . What show do you want to see?? What question should I ask on the red carpet? You KNOW I have to talk to Shonda! Ask how Girls narrow NYC viewpoint is comedy gold for HBO! How the writers got the perfect mix of Telenova and Comedy that’s broken the mold for CW! The new season of Homeland has found it’s footing but why the detour??? I plan to cause some TROUBLE at Paleyfest this year!

Another day another Friday and this week B&N is offering us a great selection of a collection of short stories to a new CBS comedy (is it still a comedy if it’s not funny?) the Mccarthys. ehh people seem to love Mike & Molly so what do I know!
November 7, 2014: Today’s Free Fridays book selection is GATSBY GIRLS by F. Scott Fitzgerald, a series of short stories inspired by his wife Zelda serialized by the Saturday Evening Post and published for the first time with the original, full illustrations and cover art. Fans of the immensely popular Jazz Age author of “The Great Gatsby” and “Tender is the Night” will fawn over these eight stories inspired by the figure of the Flapper woman, an icon of the 1920s.
She was an impulsive, fashionable and carefree 1920s woman who embodied the essence of the Gatsby Girl— F. Scott Fitzgerald’s wife, Zelda. As Fitzgerald said, “I married the heroine of my stories.” All of the eight short stories contained in this collection were inspired by Zelda.
Fitzgerald, one of the foremost writers of American fiction, found early success as a short story writer for the most widely read magazine of the early 20th century — the Saturday Evening Post. Fitzgerald’s stories, first published by the Post between 1920 and 1922, brought the Jazz Age and the “flapper” to life and confirmed that America was changing faster than ever before. Women were bobbing their hair, drinking and flirting shamelessly, and Fitzgerald brought these exciting Gatsby Girls to life in the pages of the Post.
FREE FRIDAY APP
November 7, 2014: Today’s Free Fridays app selection is BALLTASTIC BLAST, a simple yet addictive game for ages 4 and up.
It’s a new take on the original Balltastic Boombastic game. Both of these titles are designed for family-friendly fun! Simple enough for kids to play, but challenging enough for adults… or is it the other way around in your household already?
FREE FRIDAY VIDEO
November 7, 2014: Today’s Free Fridays video selection is the pilot episode of the series THE MCCARTHYS– the new CBS series about a working-class Boston family with a long-running athletic legacy.
The McCarthys are a close-knit, sports-crazed Boston family whose somewhat athletically challenged son, Ronny, is chosen by his father to be his assistant high school basketball coach, much to the surprise of his more qualified siblings. Ronny wants nothing more than to move away, join the singles scene and find a partner. His distraught mother, Marjorie is not upset that her favorite son is gay, but that he wants to leave Boston and his family. Ronny’s plans change, however, when his politically incorrect and outspoken father, Arthur stuns everyone with his choice for an assistant. Touched by his father’s offer, Ronny embarks on a completely different future and he can be sure that his loving family, including his twin brothers Sean and Gerard and his sister Jackie, are going to have a very vocal opinion about it.
We hope you enjoy the Free Fridays selections this week, NOOK blog community! Deepest apologies for the price mishap this morning.

Well I’m disappointed with the series finale of How I Met Your Mother since it was everything I didn’t expect or want … well I started to feel concerned with the infamous “Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment In Slapmarra” so offensive on many levels. What I found offensive started with acting as if being Asian is a ‘costume’. The director’s decision to have the ALL WHITE cast put on makeup to appear Asian AND have accents . The refusal to cast ASIAN people for the episode (don’t get me started on the lack of diversity for a show in NEW YORK CITY). The fact that NONE of the cast members brought up this is offensive and acted in the episode (really!!!! WTF I expected the final episode to have Black Face & KKK as a joke). The episode infuriated me so much I couldn’t watch it but hoped it was an anomaly for the series. Namely ignoring the diversity of not only NYC but Minnesota not that I can talk since I was a faithful fan (holding head down with shame) and watched it faithfully every week. Yes I know Barney has a black brother and Robin’s nemesis is Filipino (????) but out of years and years that’s pretty much it other than the blips of POC chips that popped up in (I suspect) fan complaints over the lack of diversity.
Than the annoyance of the Barney & Robin wedding that took up FOUR damn episodes (WTF again) the show is HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER!!! Not the Wedding from Hell that goes on WAY too long! Since the producer/writers seemed to have run out of ideas for a few episodes I gave them a pass hoping that the finale would be a big kiss to us loyal fans but alas it was a sucker punch to the gullet. I just thought the end was mean to Barney, mean to Robin (successful professional woman is of COURSE a spinster) and mean as HELL to the wife. It made Ted a bit of a douche (five freaking years and two kids but still couldn’t seal the deal????) who pined away for his true love (sort of) but settled for his ‘second’ choice.
Part of the reason I was a fan of the show is that I’m a female Ted. I’m looking for my true love. The man who will make my toes curl, who makes me laugh, gets my odd humor, is so smart it’s intimidating, is a major geek and is the perfect person for me (he’s not perfect just perfect for ME). I’ve been waiting for him all my life and nothing horrifies me more than to think that one day I’d find him and realize that he just ‘settled’ for me since the one he REALLY wanted didn’t want him. It’s why I watched the show every week (even when it made me mad, wasn’t that funny and went on a little too long) because I wanted … NO expected the happy ending that I want for myself. I thought it would be worth the wait to live vicariously through a romcom with a somewhat schlubby geeky guy who gets his geeky cute gal.
I know that real life isn’t like the RomComs that I love. I know in real life that people fall in love with the wrong person, that people would rather be with anyone than be alone and that no matter how nice somebody is they don’t always find love (I worry I’m the poster child for that malady). But when I watch a silly 30 minute comedy I do want a little happiness and I expect lots of laughter.
Am I the only one who didn’t get the series finale they wanted? That instead we got the finale the producer/writer wanted that was supposed to be bittersweet but was instead just bitter. Do you agree? Please respond with a comment on the finale of How I Met Your Mother.
Geek you later …

I’m SOOO excited that Mastercard has given me tickets to the official Grammy Party this Sunday that I had to check out Nordstrom for accessories and a cute 20s inspired dress. Sadly no Cherry Size section any longer at the Grove (Plus Size)
but I did see some cool sparkly clutches and necklace that would be perfect to freshen up two outfits I have at home. One is a sexy little brown dress that I can wear with a cashmere Leopard Shrug (I get cold) or the hot pink dress that I met my ex in (hmm it worked once!) last Valentine’s Day. My major problem is finding the perfect shoes (comfy but cute) that will give me a little bling that I can shake my groove thing in! I’m still checking Nordstrom but don’t have time for too much crazy shopping but am sure I’ll find something. Urghh the decision to look sexy is so damn hard when you have all this (big booty and boobs) but I’m going to WORK it!!! I don’t know if I’ll be twerking it and dropping it low but I do know I’m getting my flirt on!!! It’s a numbers game and I’m playing!!!

I’m going to be geeking out on Monday at the opening of the new Paley Center Exhibit of Juan Ortiz Star Trek inspired art. I grew up loving Captain Kirk and his kiss with Uhura was a major crush moment for me as a child. I’m a geek born and bred with a dad who’s major bonding was watching episodes of Star Trek (and other Science Fiction shows) together. So when I got the invite it took me back to fond family memories of favorite shows, hanging with my dad and sister and well happy moments of childhood long since passed. I mean really Star Trek is one of those shows that are STILL good even though it’s over 40 years old the stories, cast chemistry and creatures can still entertain. You would assume I’d be Uhura but I’m more of a Spock. The Spock in the opposite world where his passion was at the forefront but still analytical. Hmmmm what does that say about me??? What Star Trek iconic character do you identify with and why?
Make sure you head to Beverly Hills and the Paley Center to see these iconic scenes reimagined by Juan Ortiz!

I’m pretty excited that Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is coming to the Pantages next summer from June 3 – 22rd and the announced stars are DIANA DeGARMO and ACE YOUNG for the three week show. It should be a blast since this play is on my ‘list’ of broadway shows to see. It’s a classic that has withstood the test of time with great costumes and music.
If you haven’t seen or heard of this family friendly classic musical it’s about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel’s favorite son. This the very first collaboration of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera, Cats) and Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King), the perfect harmonious blend of music genres from pop to country to rock all with a joyous spirit that embodies a coat of many colors!
I’m sure that the chemistry will jump off the stage since the two stars are happily married! Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo first met for the 2009 Hair revival on Broadway. “I am so excited to star as ‘Joseph’ alongside Diana,” said Ace. “It’s great to be back! I too am so excited to star alongside Ace in the very role I once looked up to years ago as a child in the choir,” added Diana.
You can purchase tickets for JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT now as long as you are a Pantages Season Ticket holder at www.HollywoodPantages.com or by calling the Season Ticket office at 866-755-2929 (Mon – Fri; 9:30am – 5:30pm). If you currently haven’t purchased season tickets you can go to the site and buy for the upcoming season that is full of hits that will get your toe tapping!
The performance schedule for JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is Tuesday through Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm & 8pm, and Sunday at 1pm & 6:30pm.
