I loved the Walt Disney Television Animation and Buena Vista Television animated series Gargoyles created by Greg Weisman (1994 to 1997). Like many fans I’ve wanted more of these characters so am beyond excited that the award-winning filmmaker Carlos Ferrer has made a short short fan film in hopes of getting approval from Disney to helm a movie with the great characters. The series may have been for kids but I watched as young adult and fell in love with the voices, storylines of being ‘out of time’, friendship, loyalty and heroism. If you’ve never seen the series it follows a clan of night creatures aka Gargoyles who protect modern New York City as they did in Scotland when they wake up after nightfall. Ferrer has directed, edited, animated and scored the fan film out of love for the characters and stories.
“I need as many views as possible to convince producers and execs that my vision of a live action Gargoyles film will work for audiences and fans. It’s a rich story with a great message – a fantasy set in the real world and with today’s technology it could be fantastic. I grew up with this so I feel like I really know what has to be done. Ferrer is an award-winning American filmmaker with over fifteen years experience in production and storytelling. At the age of sixteen, he directed over one hundred cast and crew members on a feature-length film that later won “Best Student Feature” at the Long Island Film Festival. Ferrer studied Film at SUNY Purchase College, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts & Film. His credits include the 2016 film Retina and short film The Popcorn Man.

I remember seeing the original Disney’s Aladdin (animated film) in 1992 with my family. It was a delight that had my entire family laughing from my little brother who was in pre-school to my parents. It’s always been a favorite because of the warm fuzzy feelings it gives me so had extremely high expectations when the Broadway show came to the Pantages. We’ve all seen the video of the Broadway cast ‘sing-off’ at the airport with the Lion King cast. The Disneyfication of Broadway has given me hours of joy watching beloved animated series and none have been a disappointment. From the puppetry of The Lion King and delighted by the Beauty and the Beast costumes … Disney musicals are pure magic.
I adored the show it’s a scrumptious visual light pastry that is full of layers to delight attendees of all ages. The moment the curtain opened I was intrigued with the beautiful Aladdin and Jasmine whose voices twirled and danced in my ear like dervishes. The Genie had huge feet to fill but he was able to channel the comic genius of Robin Williams and make it his own. I loved how they were able to translate the animation to real life. We all remember the saucy sarcastic parrot constantly whispering in the Sultans ear. Going into the show I thought they might use a toy bird with a recorder but to have a ‘mini me’ with all the spunk and trouble played by Reggie De Leon (Iago) was hilarious from the evil laugh to plotting with the Sultan to take over the kingdom. I was giggling like a schoolgirl. The costumes were BEAUTIFUL and truly enriched the visuals of the show adding texture and placing them in the Arabian nights fantasy of this Disney fairytale. The costumes didn’t just add texture but also content that reminded me of some of my favorite scenes from the animated films but still allowing the cast to dance and sing. The set designer out did themselves with the market and the cave of treasure. I don’t want to give away too much but don’t take your eyes away from one moment. Try to study the depth and how design enriched the playto transport youto another world. Watching Aladdin made me feel as if I was on the stage with the movement, brightness and cast interactions with the set. It felt ‘real’ and people around me ‘oohed and aahed’ so many times with me. I mean the man to the right gasped with me when the flying carpet took off. When people say ‘Disney magic’ they are talking about this musical that looked so much like a live action of the animated movie that I plan to watch the film again!
Perfect show to see with BFF
The story of boy meets girl and boy finds a genie is the classic romcom I needed to have my feet tapping with beloved songs from the Disney library and new music. My gosh the flying carpet was a marvel and had me so lost in the moment I felt it was magic (since I have NO idea how they did it) but I have never wanted to fly above the city in arms of a good-hearted thief more! I truly recommend going to see Aladdin with your BFF, the person who stole your heart and of course anyone who’s a kid or a kid at heart. Aladdin will show you the world and leave you delighted.
Aladdin opened on Broadway in 2014 with homage to the animated film and fairy tale but with a Walt Disney stamp to appeal to fans of all ages. It was with joy and anticipation to learn that it would make its first appearance in January so was delighted to be able to attend the first show. I wasn’t the only one since the filled Pantages had fans young and old ready to rub a lamp and have Adam Jacobs the Broadway actor who originated the role appear to grant THREE wishes. In addition to Adam Jacobs, Reggie De Leon reprises his role as Iago from the Broadway show.

The final and fourth season of Star Wars Rebels will premier Monday, October 16th on Disney XD
Well in the final season the Ghost crew joins the Rebel Alliance that is having a hard time against the enormous and powerful Galactic Empire. It becomes even more personal for Ezra as the Empire threatens Lothal with Imperial Occupation. The entire crew goes back to fight an all foe the evil genius Grand Admiral Thrown. Going home means that they will reunite with old friends and make new alliances to try to throw the Imperials off his home planet.
What do YOU think is in store for our ragtag crew of rebels? I’m hoping that we’ll see more of Kanan & Hera’s relationship (I read the book about how the met <swoon>). I don’t think that Sabine will never stop thinking of Ezra as her ‘kid brother’ but I don’t think we’ll get a Princess Leia/Luke reveal that he’s REALLY her brother! I’m very excited about meeting some of the new characters and creatures in the final season. I love the alien creature we’ve met over the past three seasons on Star Wars Rebels and can’t wait to see what Dave and the team think up for the epic final season! I’m excited that Arclight supports diversity in film with not simply screening indie films from women, people of color and LGBT but also has a series of workshops talking about the business of entertainment! I just saw that the new Women in Entertainment Workshop will take place May 17 – 19 at Sonoma Wine Garden in Santa Monica.

New avenues for distribution are constantly emerging and this workshop will focus how content creators should navigate the current entertainment landscape – from traditional feature platforms to online film and television markets. Participants will hear from esteemed industry executives and discuss the opportunities, challenges, tactical strategies and financial models associated with connecting storytellers to audiences.

We will discuss trends from how to develop cutting-edge out of the box creative campaigns, to marketing including paid marketing, direct-to-fan engagement, social media, influencers, events, and festivals, and other digital tools. Topics will include the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of a marketing campaign while revealing the insights and challenges met by industry executives along the way.

The Black-ish Panel was hosted by the enthusiastic Entertainment Tonight presenter, Nischelle Turner. One could easily tell she was just as big a fan as everyone in the audience. Before the cast was introduced, the audience was given an exclusive view of a not yet aired episode. To no one’s surprise, it was difficult for the audience to not go long without erupting into laughter from the witty and clever episode.
The cast was finally introduced and once everyone was seated no time was wasted. The cast spoke about the latest aired episode, “Hope,” how it came to be, and how everyone went about taking on their roles.
Executive producer and creator, Kenya Barris and executive producer, Jonathan Groff spoke about the future of the show and the direction it will be taken in especially since it was recently renewed for its third
Each actor also spoke about how they take on each character, and how much of their characters are actually themselves. Marsai Martin (“Diane Johnson”) hilariously found it difficult to say how sassy she was in comparison to her character.
Overall, it was a fun and light event. Throughout the entire panel, the cast carried on with each other with playful banter, especially Anthony Anderson (“Andre ‘Dre’ Johnson”) and Tracee Ellis Ross (“Rainbow Johnson”) that kept the audience in an uproar of laughter. It was easy to see how they manage such perfect on-screen chemistry.
Fans of the show have much to look forward to in terms of the show’s future. Also, if you’d like to watch the entire panel for yourself, you can check it out on Hulu in its full form.
Am so excited that Brandy is going to play Roxie Hart at the Pantages! I can’t believe the little girl who sang ‘I wanna be down’ is down for this sexy Broadway tour! I’m sure that her voice will add a new dimension to Roxie.
I might have to read the book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse and of course I already know the music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

It’s exciting to seeCHICAGO here at that Pantages it’s #1 longest-running American musical in Broadway history.

Her next project is a new series called ‘Zoe Ever After’ on BET where she plays Zoe Moon (Norwood). It’s a comedy that focuses on Zoe as she navigates life as a divorcee from a famous boxer as she forges a new path of dating, being a single mom and being the ‘boss’ of her own cosmetic line! *SPOILER ALERT* Here’s a New Mid-Season Trailer for “Star Wars Rebels”… I mean how can any Star Wars fan not <squeel> with Princess Leia, Yoda and Darth Vader expanding on the series as we explore the call of the dark side? If you have not been enjoying the series I say you’ve been missing out on a show that appeals to a fanboy/fangirl in a different way than my beloved Clone Wars. The decision to use a different animation style and new characters expands the universe. You don’t have to LOVE Star Wars to be a fan of the action packed series. The first season focused on introducing each character with unique backstories that didn’t feel like a blue print of the original or new trilogy. Instead they forged a new path that is a fun show for all ages. I know it’s on Disney XD so you may think it’s just for kids but once you watch the show you’ll see that it’s a truly all age series perfect to watch as a family or alone. So get ready to enjoy a series that has a darker feel than you’d expect from Disney XD but EXACTLY what you wanted as a Jedi!
