screen-shot-2016-09-25-at-4-28-22-pmCelebrate National Coming Out Day with the cast and creators of the ABC comedy The Real O’Neals on October 11th with the PaleyLive LA Event. I have to say that I LOVE this series because I grew up as a good Catholic girl in the midwest and totally get this series. From the ‘I’m more Catholic than you’ rivalry between the mothers to everyone being ‘too polite’ so gossip is always said in a ‘I’m only concerned’.

When I learned of the series coming to ABC I m
ust admit I thought it would be lots of mean Catholic jokes that would offend my lapsed soul. Instead it’s a series about a good Catholic Boy  who happens to be gay and his close knit family navigating how they deal with it as they fall from the superior path. Every episode had me rolling with delight remembering our Monseigneur coming to my grandparent’s house for Sunday supper and prayer service with ‘select’ friends invited . Monseigneur Meinke LOVED my grandma’s cooking!

Even if you aren’t Catholic or gay this series handles some serious subjects with a light touch of humor carried off by a talented cast. They’ve managed to make me laugh with episodes dealing with crushes, first gay boyfriend, divorce, favorite child and the general chaos of a loving Catholic Midwest family!

I’m very excited that the cast and creatives are coming to the Beverly Hills Paley Center stage to screen the S2 premier and talk about the show. I’m hoping to cover the red carpet to ask a few questions about the series, how they found a home on ABC and clues for the upcoming season premiering October 11th.

Martha Plimpton, “Eileen O’Neal” Jay R. Ferguson, “Pat O’Neal” Noah Galvin, “Kenny O’Neal” Matt Shively, “Jimmy O’Neal” Bebe Wood, “Shannon O’Neal” Mary Hollis Inboden, “Aunt Jodi”  Executive Producers Casey Johnson, David Windsor & Stacy Traub

In conjunction with National Coming Out Day, The Paley Center for Media will present a special season two premiere event with the cast and creatives of ABC’s The Real O’Neals on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Paley Center’s Beverly Hills location.

The PaleyLive LA program is open to the public and will feature a season two premiere screening, panel discussion, and interactive Q&A segment with the audience. The full panel event and clips from the program will be available to stream exclusively on Hulu at a later date. The panel conversation will also be added to the Paley Center’s LGBT Archive.

In season one of The Real O’Neals, the image-obsessed Irish-American Catholic mom (Martha Plimpton) makes every effort to hide her family’s troubles from public scrutiny, including a pending divorce and her teenage son’s recent coming out.

Tickets are currently on sale to Paley Supporting and Patron Members. Tickets go on sale to Paley Individual Members beginning Saturday, September 24 at 9:00am PT and to the General Public on Monday, September 26 at 9:00am PT. Participants are subject to change. For more information and panel updates, please visit paleycenter.org

The annual MTV Fandom Award show is airing July 24 8/7 C time in San Diego. It’s an award show that gives fangirls and boys the chance to vote for the best fandoms and best ships. Some of the categories are Ship of the Year, Animation Fandom of the Year, and Bandom of the Year.

I of course am very excited for the Ship of the Year category because I am a huge shipper, I ship everyone and everything. For people who don’t know what shipping is, shipping is when you want two or more people to end up together canon or noncanon. Sadly, my all time favorite ship, Kylux, is not featured, but Stormpilot is so that makes up for the lost. But there are other exciting categories; even Jon Snow’s resurrection is featured along with Han Solo’s death (sad face).

MTV Fandom Awards Categories

Animation Fandom of the Year:

  1. Adventure Time
  2. Gravity Falls
  3. Inside Out
  4. Steven Universe
  5. Zootopia
  6. Rick and Morty

Bandom of the Year

  1. 5SOS
  2. The 1975
  3. All Time Low
  4. Pierce the Veil
  5. Twenty One Pilots
  6. Panic! at the Disco

Fan Freakout of the Year

  1. Game of Thrones: Resurrection of Jon Snow
  2. Mr. Robot: Mr. Robot revealed
  3. Walking Dead: Glenn’s Death Scare
  4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Death of a Legend
  5. Pretty Little Liars: Spence and Caleb Hook Up
  6. The 100: RIP Lexa

Best New Fandom of the Year

  1. Jessica Jones
  2. Hamilton
  3. Mr. Robot
  4. Scream
  5. Suicide Squad
  6. Shadowhunters: the Mortal Instruments

Best Revival Fandom of the Year

  1. Baywatch
  2. Fuller House
  3. Gilmore Girls
  4. Harry Potter
  5. High School Musical
  6. The X-Files

Ship of the Year

  1. Clexa
  2. Malec
  3. Olicity
  4. Stucky
  5. Stydia
  6. Westallen
  7. StormPilot

Fandom of the Year

  1. Teen Wolf
  2. Arrow
  3. Maze runner: The Scorch Trials
  4. Supernatural

I have casted my votes already. Hopefully Teen Wolf will win Fandom of the Year even though Supernatural is in the lead.

If you want to vote you can click this link http://www.mtv.com/fandom-awards/vote/animation-fandom-of-the-year/ but for certain categories you have to post on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr. But that is for the big categories like Fandom of the Year or Ship of the Year.

Make sure to vote for your fandom before it’s too late. It’s time to prove that your fandom is truly the best.

I want to head to Washington, DC for the festival to attend the talk with William Shatner as he reminisces about 50 years of Star Trek and his new book about Leonard Nimoy (Spock). How can you calculate the cost of meeting the original Captain Kirk and get to sit in the designated seating area to hear the SyFy channels panel on 12 Monkeys. Well it costs $150 and has limited availability for this exclusive book signing.

Displaying 1000400149DVDLEFO.JPGI’m pretty stoked about the newest installment of the JLA movies coming out today.   The have some of my favorite members from Cyborg to Superman to Wonder Woman to Hawkgirl and more all ready to kick some badguy ass! Hmm I don’t want to be sexist so they’ll be kicking some badGAL ass too!  All’s fair to fight villainy! The animation is very much in the style expected with bright colors, sharp edges and a very muscular superhero body that is popular at this time.

JLA ADVENTURES: TRAPPED IN TIME has the Justice League fighting the Legion of Doom (Lex Luthor, Cheetah, Solomon Grundy, Bizarro, Gorilla Grodd, Black Manta, Toyman and Captain Cold) with the help of the Time Trapper to as usual pursue trouble across time and space!  Will our heroes be able to stop them??? If your curious head over to Target and grab the newest direct to DVD  and  digital stream movie from  Warner Bros. Animation.  Now this isn’t as dark as some of their other films since this is targeted to tie into their Target Justice League toyline and so is very kid friendly.

So check out the latest JLA movie starring Superman (voiced by Peter Jessop), Cyborg and Batman (voiced by Diedrich Bader) and let me know who’s your favorite villain or hero??

Star Wars: Clone Wars PosterAs a total fanboy .. well fangirl it was really fun to interview Dave Filoni the director of Cartoon Network’s (CN) Star Wars: the Clone Wars.  I got the opportunity to ask him about the upcoming Season 5 of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series that’s scheduled to air in September of 2012 about what it’s like to work with George Lucas, being on the Skywalker Ranch of and of course projecting my own geeky curiosity.  I’m sure I’m not the only person who grew up loving Star Wars and fantasized about working for George Lucas .. well in my case BEING George Lucas able to create stories out of my dreams, characters that would move the story closer to my fantasy (Jar Jar NEVER existed!).  It was really fun chatting with him about growing up and into the man who’s helming Star Wars the Clone Was and I got a great interview which has been uploaded to cherrylosangeles @youtube.

Now for a lot of people you’ll have seen his work but may not know his name since he’s behind the camera.  First off he’s the director of the the 2008 feature film Star Wars: The Clone Wars (animated) and the supervising director of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series on Cartoon Network.  He’s directed animated series on a variety of networks including Nickolodeon’s the Last Airbender, ABC’s the Oblongs, Fox’s King of the Hill and Disney’s American Dragon: Jake Long.
