The time has come to send your original designs to the Her Universe Fashion Show. This fashion show celebrates “geek fashion”, and the winner is given the chance to design a fashion collection with Ashley Eckstein, founder of Her Universe, for Hot Topic. Basically, this is a Project Runway event for geeks. There is even a junior design competition for those of you who are under 18 years old. This is a fantastic competition for both men and women of all ages.
Here below are the fabulous winning designs from the 2017 show!
If you are not sewing inclined, this is a great show to come to if you are in the San Diego region. Rolling Stone put it on the list of “25 Best Things We Saw at San Diego Comic Con”, and many popular celebrities attend this event like our favorite Stark sisters, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. This is a huge mainstream event covered by popular media sources like Nylon and MTV. As a fashion lover, I consider this the best event to attend, so I would not miss out on it if you are in the area.
As a fellow seamstress myself, I love the opportunity to strut my stuff on the catwalk and show off all of my designs. This year I put together a school wide charity fashion show where I displayed 13 original outfits sewed and designed by me. If I were to compete in this show, I would stay true to my roots and designed a Barbie catwoman esque jumpsuit. Since I enjoy putting on a show, I would come out in my suit flock with an army of chic cats.
You can send admissions here.

I loved the Walt Disney Television Animation and Buena Vista Television animated series Gargoyles created by Greg Weisman (1994 to 1997). Like many fans I’ve wanted more of these characters so am beyond excited that the award-winning filmmaker Carlos Ferrer has made a short short fan film in hopes of getting approval from Disney to helm a movie with the great characters. The series may have been for kids but I watched as young adult and fell in love with the voices, storylines of being ‘out of time’, friendship, loyalty and heroism. If you’ve never seen the series it follows a clan of night creatures aka Gargoyles who protect modern New York City as they did in Scotland when they wake up after nightfall. Ferrer has directed, edited, animated and scored the fan film out of love for the characters and stories.
“I need as many views as possible to convince producers and execs that my vision of a live action Gargoyles film will work for audiences and fans. It’s a rich story with a great message – a fantasy set in the real world and with today’s technology it could be fantastic. I grew up with this so I feel like I really know what has to be done. So it’s really about getting as much exposure as possible with the fans and others who may not know about the show“,Carlos Ferrer.
About Carlos Ferrer
Ferrer is an award-winning American filmmaker with over fifteen years experience in production and storytelling. At the age of sixteen, he directed over one hundred cast and crew members on a feature-length film that later won “Best Student Feature” at the Long Island Film Festival. Ferrer studied Film at SUNY Purchase College, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts & Film. His credits include the 2016 film Retina and short film The Popcorn Man.

Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con Partners With Guitar Center For Charity Auction Event To Be Held Sunday October 30 at 3:00PM
The World’s Largest Retailer of Musical Instruments and Pro Audio Gear Teams with L.A.’s Very Own Pop Culture Extravaganza to Auction a Gibson Flying V – Signed by Stan Lee – With Proceeds Benefitting Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory
I LOVE how Stan Lee is giving back to the community this Sunday with a extra special auction benefiting the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory! He recognizes the importance of giving kids the opportunity to be creative since with him we wouldn’t have comics/graphic novels as the art form we have today! This year Stan Lee’s ComiKaze Expo aka Stan Lee’s L.A. Comic Con has partnered with the Guitar Center and Gibson Guitars for a one of a kind collector item that will appeal to the fanboy/fangirl AND music lover in all of us with the one of a kind Gibson Flying V. I’m hoping to get a peek of this work of art before Sunday. If I do I’ll post it on twitter but no matter what grab your tickets and meet me at the LA Convention Center this Halloween Weekend and get your Boo on with kids of all ages and those of us who ‘kids at heart’!
All music-loving attendees of Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con will be heading to the Main Stage of the Los Angeles Convention Center on Sunday, October 30 at 3:00 PM where one lucky convention-goer will become the owner of a Gibson Flying V signed by Stan Lee – all courtesy of the Los Angeles Comic Con and Guitar Center.
The one of a kind electric guitar will be auctioned off by the Los Angeles Comic Con with all proceeds generated from the auction benefitting the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory, a downtown Los Angeles center that teaches the comic arts free of charge to local youths.
Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory (BHAC) is dedicated to helping young people explore careers in Film, Television, Broadcasting, Digital and the Creative Arts industries. BHAC provides professional training and workshops that prepare students in becoming solid candidates for these industries. Through innovative programming such as Cartoons and Cereal, and Comics & Culture – Limited Edition, BHAC partners with multi-media professionals to bring technology and pop culture to our most under-resourced communities. BHAC works to create career pathways for ages 6-22, to develop the next generation of leaders in these fields and create an economic equity for our most underserved.
“We are extremely thrilled to be joined by Guitar Center whose awesome contribution of a Gibson Flying V will serve to benefit an outstanding cause. There are lots of musicians on the L.A. Comic Con team and they all regard Guitar Center as a home away from home for all of their musical and sound needs. It will be a joy for all of us to work alongside Guitar Center to help benefit the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory,” said Regina Carpinelli, President and Founder of Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con. “We are also really happy to have the chance to help expose future comic artists and comic lovers to the comics industry. These young Los Angelenos are the future of this business.”
“Guitar Center is pleased to partner with Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con Expo to help benefit such a worthy cause,” said Brian Berman, Vice President of Marketing at Guitar Center. “We’re looking forward to a phenomenal turnout for the auction and we appreciate the opportunity to support the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory and their mission to remove barriers and create pathways for artists to continue their craft.”

This year it is taking place September 8-13 in Beverly Hills (465 N. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90210). For those of you that don’t know what PaleyFest is, it’s a week long festival that features premiere screenings and panel conversations with stars from upcoming Fall TV shows. Past events have featured hit shows including Black-ish, Jane the Virgin, Scandal, and Arrow. The Paley Center in New York will host a free PaleyFest screening September 10-11. HULU will also air clips and full length discussions sometime in September.
PaleyFest features sneak peeks into upcoming fall shows from ABC, CBS, The CW, El Rey, FOX, and NBC. The line up for this year’s PaleyFest offers peeks into new shows like Notorious, Pitch, No Tomorrow, and Frequency. Some panelists featured are Mandy Moore, Damon Wayans, Sr., and Dermot Mulroney. I’m very excited for to see Frequency. It’s about a detective that discovers she can speak to her deceased father through a ham radio, so they solve murder cases together and struggle with the butterfly effect. Frequency is set to air October 5 on The CW. I’m also interested in upcoming FOX show Pitch. It’s about a young female pitcher becoming the first woman to play in Major League Baseball for the San Diego Padres. As a softball pitcher I am interested in seeing how everything plays out in the new show. It will air September 22.
The annual MTV Fandom Award show is airing July 24 8/7 C time in San Diego. It’s an award show that gives fangirls and boys the chance to vote for the best fandoms and best ships. Some of the categories are Ship of the Year, Animation Fandom of the Year, and Bandom of the Year.
I of course am very excited for the Ship of the Year category because I am a huge shipper, I ship everyone and everything. For people who don’t know what shipping is, shipping is when you want two or more people to end up together canon or noncanon. Sadly, my all time favorite ship, Kylux, is not featured, but Stormpilot is so that makes up for the lost. But there are other exciting categories; even Jon Snow’s resurrection is featured along with Han Solo’s death (sad face).

Are you a Star Wars loving lego enthusiast? Well Disney XD’s new animated television show, LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, is the show for you. It’s a 22 minute series voiced by Vanessa Lengies, Nicolas Cantu, Eugene Byrd, and Matthew Wood.
The Freemakers gives the audience a new story focused on a scavenger family, the Freemakers. They are a family of three, and the youngest member, Rowan, is extremely strong with the force. As many fans of the infamous series know, when a character is strong with the force the audience can expect multiple hi jinxes. It’s a new story, that doesn’t feature Leia and Luke Skywalker as the main protagonists. But original fan favorites are still featured; Luke and Leia made their first appearance in episode 5 and Darth Vader and Darth Sidious, formerly Palpatine, made their first appearance in episode 1.
The Freemakers salvage parts from destroyed or abandoned ships and use the parts to create new ones, that they then sale to earn a living. But when Rowan discovers an ancient artifact, the Kyber Saber, he discovers his connection to the force. He is then mentored by a seemingly good-intentioned jedi named Naare. This scavenger family is now in the middle of the battle between the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance. As there is a search for the Kyber Saber crystals where good and bad are compete to find the crystals. And all is not as it seems.
This show is very interesting and it captivates the audience’s attention from the first scene. All in episode one the viewer will discover so much, and there are multiple introductions of characters, ships, and themes. All in episode one the viewer will discover that Naare doesn’t have good intentions with Rowan and is actually with the Empire.
Overall this a great show and the visuals are what the audience should expect from a lego based television show. It stays true to what is expected from a show with such a strong fan base, it introduces new and old characters that viewers will come to love.
The next episode airs July 18 on Disney XD at 10:00 AM.
