I saw the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie aka MCU: 14 Doctor Strange. I must admit when Marvel announced they were making the film I got SO excited. I’ve been a fan of the character since I was a kid and would read the comics.
I must admit I was over the moon imagining whom they would cast as this character that I had loved as a little black girl in Iowa that scoured the comic book shop for characters of color (COC). I decided a long time ago that my Doctor wasn’t black but he wasn’t white either I always thought he was Indian or from Asian country that after his injuries decided to explore the medicine of his ancestors (who he had turned away from as he completely assimilated to American culture) so when they announced they had cast Benedict Cumberbatch I was very upset. Disappointed that once again a character that could have no SHOULD have been a man of color was instead cast with one of the whitest men on the screen. Now in his defense he’s a great actor and I’m a huge fan of Benedict. So I weakly decided to forgive Marvel for that choice since I was sure the Ancient One would be an Asian actor either someone US audiences know already like Jet Li or Daniel Dae Kim or Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa but instead they cast Tilda Swinton freaking TILDA SWINTON the whitest woman in the entire world. mind blown I got so mad that I pledged to not see the film EVER! I was done DONE with the two leads. Even after they cast Chiwetel Ejiofor I was no. But than my friends insisted we see the Suicide Squad and I saw Benedict in the cape I started to yearn for the movie. Despite my pledge to stand strong with my Asian Brothers and Sisters against the whitewashing of the first superhero film that SHOULD have been predominately Asian but I still thought I will not see the film BUT will watch it on HBO or DVD.
But happily I’m on a screening list and got to see a sneak preview of the film with a good blerd chick friend. So lucky you get a review of the film.
So I’m going to go on and say one of the things that I found strange ABOUT Dr. Strange. How the holy freck is a movie that takes place in a mythical Asian country that all of the supporting stars are either WHITE or a Black guy (notice I say GUY as in the ONE). Now they do have two supporting Asian actors one is Wong (Benedict Wong) the librarian and an actor who I can’t even find listed on IMDB <URGH>.
But it’s a solid MCU origin story where you get to know Dr. Strange (and yes you will call him DOCTOR) a hotshot surgeon who’s a bit of a talented douche who likes to take high profile cases that will go in his ‘win’ column so that he can keep collecting awards and money to fund a very expensive Manhattan lifestyle. All that changes when he gets in car accident in his BMW (should have sprung for the self driving) where he mangles his precious surgeon hands but no his mind . This starts him on a path to fix his hands so he can get back to his life as a world class surgeon and so be first tries Western medicine (the best money can buy) before finally deciding that he wants to figure out how a former patient of his rehabilitation nurse was able to get back on his feet (I think releasing personal medical records to prove your right is illegal but let’s just go all in and ignore that too). This path takes him half way across the world to and he begins a journey that eventually leads him to Kamar-Taj (Tibet to everyone else). Once he meets the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) or The White Ghost the story picks up the pace and careens to the final showdown with the big bad. Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) is an OK villain seduced by power but despite his being a solid actor I don’t think the part was as fleshed out as I’d have liked and it just felt like so many other villains that he didn’t make that big of an impression. But of course as a nod to diversity he gets a black bestie Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and enigmatic Asian guy Wong (Benedict Wong) who seems to a stick in the mud ‘follow the rules’ type of guy both characters seem to be all about making Dr. Strange a better white superior to all . Did I mention that they justified the Ancient One with a throwaway line of how she’s Gaelic and doesn’t talk about how she got to be the leader .
I don’t want to throw shade but Benedict get a major tan because he’s not as pearly as he normally looks!
At least we have the Black Panther … but my Asian Brothers and Sisters get bupkis with this film. I felt like a kid when I’d watch TV or movies desperately looking for someone who looked like me that were always either in the background or were the hooker or drug dealer. Things have changed but comic book movies still aren’t moving fast enough for me.

BBC AMERICA’s Doctor Who spin-off series Class
I’m just joking Dr. Who doesn’t have any kids yet (that I know of) but we are getting a new spinoff called ‘Class’. They don’t get their own Blue (Police) Box but instead our at Coal Hill School navigating teen angst and the end of the world! The cast will include
“An Unearthly Child”, Doctor Who (William Hartnell) bulletin board Coal Hill School from
Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah and Katherine Kelly will be the teacher in charge of the kids and maybe the school? I’m curious as a cat and am excited about this new series. I’d always hoped for more Time Lords … or maybe Time Ladies but it’s always exciting to see new adventures in the universe. We don’t have all the details but we do know that the four students will be dealing with major issues as they hide out from enemies as well as dealing with being on a new planet and of course homework (eek), friends, parents and hormones! The Coal Hill School has been part of the Doctor Who universe since time immortal but it’s not the safe haven your high school may have been. This school is smack dab in the middle of trouble with a capital ‘T’ from all the time travel the walls have become thin and a bit malleable so the big bad wolf is scratching at the door trying to blow this school house down. The shadow is hell bent on killing everyone and everything and all that’s standing between total annihilation our four kids and their teacher! I hope they are up to the challenge of fighting the Shadow alone .. or will we get a few visits from a special guy with a sonic screwdriver! I’m excited that the YA series will take place in contemporary London and is supposed to be a bit scary and funny. It’s a peak into the Whoniverse that none of us have seen and should be quite the ride since it sounds as if it’s going to appeal to be geared towards teen and adult fans so it won’t be for small kids like the Sarah Jane Adventures (which I did enjoy). I have my fingers crossed that we might get a K-9 to help out with the adventures!
Patrick Ness the award-winning YA writer is helming the new series ‘Class’ and said “We searched far and wide for this amazing cast, fantastic actors who understand what we’re aiming for with this show. And how lucky we are to get Katherine Kelly! She’s been stunning in Happy Valley, The Night Manager and Mr Selfridge, just wait until you see her here.”
Steven Moffat, Class and Doctor Who executive producer, says: “There’s nothing more exciting than meeting stars that nobody’s heard of yet. We had the read through of the first few episodes last week, and there was a whole row of them. Coal Hill School has been part of Doctor Who since the very first shoot in 1963, but this new show is anything but history. Class is dark and sexy and right now. I’ve always wondered if there could be a British Buffy – it’s taken the brilliant Patrick Ness to figure out how to make it happen.”
From Writer Patrick Ness, Director Ed Bazalgette (Poldark, Doctor Who), Producer Derek Ritchie, and Executive Producers Patrick Ness, Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin, the BBC Cymru Wales production, co-produced with BBC AMERICA and BBC Worldwide, starts filming today. The series will air on BBC Three in the UK.

Jaded by EJ Johnson $14.00
It’s such a pleasure to see someone use their fame to leverage it for good and EJ working with Chrome Girl makes perfect sense as the stylish young man is in charge of using fashion for self expression! I LOVED the camouflage style he and his crew were rocking that compliments this limited edition color.
It was fun and so individual reflecting each personality! I might have go pick up a pair of camo pants to freshen up my wardrobe for the summer!
Cherry Davis, Steve Gallindo, the Style Guyd and Pia Gladys Perey, Fashion Designer
Steve Gallindo, the Style Guyd and Pia Gladys Perey, Fashion Designer came and tried out the new polish at the Nail Bar & Beauty Lounge with the entire cast of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills supporting their friend. Steve, Pia and I went green and have to say that it’s NOT just for St. Patrick’s Day! This color complimented all three of our skin tones so don’t hesitate to support LGBT kids to get off the street AND be fashionable! I especially loved Steve’s French Manicure for those who just want to test such a vibrant rich shade. The Nail Bar & Beauty Lounge staff manicurist even suggested great ideas to keep my manicure looking my best! I will have to go back before Wondercon at the end of the month for some geek nail art using EJ’s ChromeGirl Jade Polish. I LOVED the yummy food and the Sprinkles cupcakes with the ChromeGirl polish on it <yummy>. Refreshments included champagne with H2Rose that comes in Apple, Wild Berry, Peach and Mango. All ending with my fingers dancing on the red carpet AND a lovely goody bag from Chrome Girl that has their Genie Remover Pads Piña Colada scent so the party doesn’t stop when I change nail color! You might even see me dancing on a show!

Many of you will know Adam Yauch as a co-founder of the successful American hip-hop band The Beastie Boys. However, it is not very well known that he also directed many of the group’s music videos under the pseudonym Nathaniel Hörnblowér, a quirky Swiss film maker. Yauch was the driving force behind the ambitious and humorous videos that were at least as influential for the music video genre as the Beastie Boys’ music was.
The programme celebrates Yauch, who died in 2012, as an indie artist, who was neither bothered by style nor technique and certainly didn’t worry about good taste. All that counted for him were lunatic ideas, a fearless love for experimenting and the courage to produce creative trash, true to the motto “Fight For Your Right – to party”.

I saw the film ‘Olympus is Falling’ a few years ago in the theatre because of Gerard Butler love <swoon> I have a weakness for a man in a suit and he always fills his out very well <chortle>. Reading the trades it did pretty well worldwide and wasn’t too expensive to produce but I hadn’t realize it did well enough to have a sequel but <yahoo> more Gerard but in LONDON! I’m sure the move will be a delight full of yummy British men with a co-star of London landmarks. Gramercy pictures will release ‘London has Fallen’ nationwide March 14, 2016. The film will star Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Alon Moni Aboutboul, Angela Bassett, Robert Forster, Jackie Earle Haley, Melissa Leo, Radha Mitchell, Sean O’Bryan, Charlotte Riley and Waleed Zuaiter. The sequel is written by Creighton Rothenberger, Katrin Benedikt, Christian Gudegast and Chad St. John and the film takes place after the British Prime Minister passes away, his funeral becomes a target of a terrorist organization to destroy some of the world’s most powerful leaders, devastate the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. The only hope of stopping it rests on the shoulders of the President of the United States (Aaron Eckhart) and his formidable Secret Service head (Gerard Butler), and an English MI-6 agent (Charlotte Riley) who rightly trusts no one. Morgan Freeman also stars as the Vice President of the United States.

It takes an adventurous stomach and big appetite for anyone interested in eating like a Red Wedding guest this weekend in London.
Hidden in a Victoria era London Hotel’s marble clad Masonic Temple has been transformed with candles and Baratheon and Lannister flags for a royal Game of Thrones inspired feast! As anyone can expect from a Lannister affair you will be graced with the prescence of knights, jesters singing ‘Incest is Best’, a contortionists and intrigue!
Only a lucky few contestants will be able to be a guest with by winning an exclusive invite to Chef Jamie Hazeel’s Game of Thrones inspired pop-up restaurant ‘All Men Must Dine’ celebrating the DVD release of season four of the HBO series. For those in attendance they were able to ‘enjoy’ a 15-course meal at the King’s Landing council chamber of the Seven Kingdoms well a restaurant whose interior design was reminiscent of everyone’s favorite gory fantasy series. Chef Hazeel wanted to make items described by George R.R. Martin’s prose but found that one of the delicacies (for example) traitor’s tongue with smoked serpent was difficult. He said that python is difficult to cook so they had to substitute smoked eel for one dish. Hazeel is not only a chef but he’s a fan of the show that uses medieval recipes for the many deadly banquets! As a co-owner of the Wandering Chef (catering company) he knows the importance of improvising and quick thinking that he used to create the recipes the guests were able to enjoy!
As any fan of the show knows the rich and powerful eat the very best and one of their favorite treats is honeyed fowl. I know when watching I always assumed they were eating chicken but to Hazeel luxury is something a bit more adventurous. So he created a honey and lemon-glazed quail stuffed with apricots, almonds and sultanas (have no idea what that is so google to the rescue! Sultanas is a “white”, oval seedless grape). His idea of food luxury is ten courses with lots of fruit and spices (something that the lower classes did not have access to in medieval times).
Some of the inspiration for dishes were for the characters many flaws for instance honey-fried locusts and a dish of poached calf tongue called ‘the lies of Tyrion Lannister.’ Obviously this was not a vegetarian friendly dinner party! This was for carnivore fans since the meal was of fish, flesh and fowl that the average person does not find at the local grocery store. Well let’s just say you won’t find most of these proteins at your average grocery store! Now I’m sure some people enjoy a yummy pigeon pie (made with pigeon meat) or the ‘dinosaur Scotch egg’ from an emu and an entire roast suckling pig (that I have seen since I grew up in Iowa and were a ‘pork’ state) on a pyre but the average grocery shopper sticks chicken, pork, beef or seafood but don’t often try emu! But the Chef wanted to really make dinner for the ultimate fan boy/girl who would be willing to eat like the boy king (well before his unpleasant end). Unlike King Joffrey Chef Hazeel made sure his guests had desert with his bone-marrow crème brulee. YES BONE-MARROW served in a real bone dripping blood-red sauce. Never fear the guest will have nothing to fear from Lalie Jacout, Hazeel’s business partner. She said ‘We have a lot of surprises in store, but they will leave safely,’ but my only question is will they try every dish? As a House Stark I’ve learned to avoid ALL feasts since they are murder on stomach or should I say throat??
