The project you make can be as simple or complex as you want. FIVE (5) FINALISTS WILL BE SELECTED, AND EACH WILL:
Receive an expenses-paid trip to Hollywood, California for the finalist and a parent or legal guardian.
Have an opportunity to present her completed project in front of a panel of experts in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and/or math.
Walk the red carpet at the premiere of MARVEL STUDIOS’ THOR: RAGNAROK.
One Grand Prize Winner will be selected from the five finalists to attend an immersive three-day mentorship in New York City with Disney Imagineering to build her STEM story, creating a professional level video teaching other young people how to recreate her Challenge winning project.
The Grand Prize Winner will also have the opportunity to demonstrate her Superpower of STEM project live to the Nation with a brief appearance on Good Morning America.
The video created during the Grand Prize Winner’s mentorship will be made available to students, teachers and families worldwide on the American Association for the Advancement of Science education resource website, ScienceNetLinks.com.
Finalists will be notified by September 28, 2017. Each finalist and her parent or legal guardian will travel to Los Angeles, California on or about Sunday, October 9, 2017.

Applications will be accepted on or about 4:00am PDT on August 23, 2017 until 6:00pm PDT, September 23, 2017. You are strongly encouraged to apply early to ensure full consideration.
RECEIVE CONFIRMATION. Once your application has been processed and accepted, you will receive a confirmation email (processing takes approximately 48 hours).
CREATE YOUR CHALLENGE ENTRY VIDEO. Once your application is accepted, and once your project is complete, it’s time to create a video in which you demonstrate your project, and tell us how you used your superpower of STEM to create and complete your project. If you are not sure how best to share your project whith others, check out your favorite instructional videos on the Internet for inspiration.
You may use a smartphone, computer, tablet, or camera to make your video. Please make sure we can see and hear both you and whatever you are describing/demonstrating clearly. Make sure you have adequate lighting, and the background is free of any copyrighted image, object, or obvious brand. Do not use any identifiable music in your video.
WHAT THE VIDEO MUST INCLUDE:
Your first name (and only your first name).
A demonstration of your project in an instructional format to show others how to recreate your project.
An explanation of how you used STEM to develop and create your project.
An explanation of how your project could help your family, community, or the world to be safer, healthier, or happier.
If the video does not feature you, your working project and answers to all of the questions listed above, it will be disqualified.

The TRANSFORMERS panel, held 11:00am-12:00pm on Thursday, July 20th, will get the collectors excited as the team provides an exclusive glimpse of the latest and greatest toys that have yet to hit shelves from the TRANSFORMERS: GENERATIONS POWER OF THE PRIMES product line. Fans will also be able to go behind the scenes of the TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT film line, as well as the movie Masterpiece Collection. In addition, members of the TRANSFORMERS team will host a Q&A session to answer some of your burning questions.
Other exciting TRANSFORMERS brand booth activities include a poster giveaway for TRANSFORMERS: GENERATIONS, along with a glimpse at upcoming products across the TRANSFORMERS portfolio.
MY LITTLE PONY
The MY LITTLE PONY brand is returning to Comic-Con this year with extra special activities for everypony as Hasbro anticipates the exciting premiere of MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE, which will be released by Lionsgate on October 6th. Making her premiere at the Hasbro booth will be a dazzling eight-foot tall statue of Songbird Serenade; fans can get up close to the new character, voiced by singer-songwriter Sia in MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE. Fans can also dive into Seaquestria with a one-of-a-kind photo opportunity or get “Ponified” at the Hasbro booth at special “Ponification Stations” where make-up artists will apply Cutie Marks and “ponified” hair and nails for fans of all ages.
The MY LITTLE PONY panel on Friday at 10:30 a.m. will feature the cast and creatives behind MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE and will include a sneak peek at the upcoming film followed by a Q&A. Word around Equestria is that there may be a surprise guest! After the panel, fans can meet the MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGICvoice talent for an autograph signing in the Hasbro booth.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING
This year, MAGIC: THE GATHERING fans will be treated to a series of high profile autograph sessions at the Hasbro Booth with game designer James Wyatt at 4:00 p.m.on Thursday, head designer Mark Rosewater at 10:00 a.m. and artist Tyler Jacobson at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, and artist Brandon Holt at 11:00 a.m.on Saturday. Holt illustrated the screen print of Nicol Bolas, produced in collaboration with Mondo and part of the brand’s Comic-Con exclusive 2017 Planeswalker Pack. The exclusive also includes six Planeswalker cards with artwork from Vincent Proce. The set will retail for $180 and is available at the Hasbro Toy Shop.
Rosewater will also appear at a one-man panel on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Room 25ABC in which he re-creates his popular blog about MAGIC: THE GATHERING, “Blogatog,” and participates in an audience Q&A.
Hasbro will offer fans several exciting brand experiences surrounding their favorite Super Heroes
and Villains from the MARVEL Universe. On Saturday, July 22nd from 5:00pm-6:00pm, Hasbro and MARVEL will discuss exciting news around Hasbro’s popular MARVEL Legends lineup. Attendees will also get a sneak peek at upcoming MARVEL action figures, followed by a Q&A.

This series play homage to the classic series I’d read as a kid but with a modern sensibility that shows a an independent African nation with a hero that will defend his people. It’s especially exciting that Marvel has reached out to artists to create original music tied to the video comic book that fans can watch on youtube. I especially like when the artists discuss how the feel about the character and how it fed into the creative process. The image of the Black Panther is so important to many fans of the genre and the Marvel universe is enriched because of the contribution of the writer, artists and musicians. I hope the fans love T’Challa and that the popularity of this series is a catalyst of more comic books and video series representing new diverse characters.
I saw the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie aka MCU: 14 Doctor Strange. I must admit when Marvel announced they were making the film I got SO excited. I’ve been a fan of the character since I was a kid and would read the comics.
I must admit I was over the moon imagining whom they would cast as this character that I had loved as a little black girl in Iowa that scoured the comic book shop for characters of color (COC). I decided a long time ago that my Doctor wasn’t black but he wasn’t white either I always thought he was Indian or from Asian country that after his injuries decided to explore the medicine of his ancestors (who he had turned away from as he completely assimilated to American culture) so when they announced they had cast Benedict Cumberbatch I was very upset. Disappointed that once again a character that could have no SHOULD have been a man of color was instead cast with one of the whitest men on the screen. Now in his defense he’s a great actor and I’m a huge fan of Benedict. So I weakly decided to forgive Marvel for that choice since I was sure the Ancient One would be an Asian actor either someone US audiences know already like Jet Li or Daniel Dae Kim or Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa but instead they cast Tilda Swinton freaking TILDA SWINTON the whitest woman in the entire world. mind blown I got so mad that I pledged to not see the film EVER! I was done DONE with the two leads. Even after they cast Chiwetel Ejiofor I was no. But than my friends insisted we see the Suicide Squad and I saw Benedict in the cape I started to yearn for the movie. Despite my pledge to stand strong with my Asian Brothers and Sisters against the whitewashing of the first superhero film that SHOULD have been predominately Asian but I still thought I will not see the film BUT will watch it on HBO or DVD.
But happily I’m on a screening list and got to see a sneak preview of the film with a good blerd chick friend. So lucky you get a review of the film.
So I’m going to go on and say one of the things that I found strange ABOUT Dr. Strange. How the holy freck is a movie that takes place in a mythical Asian country that all of the supporting stars are either WHITE or a Black guy (notice I say GUY as in the ONE). Now they do have two supporting Asian actors one is Wong (Benedict Wong) the librarian and an actor who I can’t even find listed on IMDB <URGH>.
But it’s a solid MCU origin story where you get to know Dr. Strange (and yes you will call him DOCTOR) a hotshot surgeon who’s a bit of a talented douche who likes to take high profile cases that will go in his ‘win’ column so that he can keep collecting awards and money to fund a very expensive Manhattan lifestyle. All that changes when he gets in car accident in his BMW (should have sprung for the self driving) where he mangles his precious surgeon hands but no his mind . This starts him on a path to fix his hands so he can get back to his life as a world class surgeon and so be first tries Western medicine (the best money can buy) before finally deciding that he wants to figure out how a former patient of his rehabilitation nurse was able to get back on his feet (I think releasing personal medical records to prove your right is illegal but let’s just go all in and ignore that too). This path takes him half way across the world to and he begins a journey that eventually leads him to Kamar-Taj (Tibet to everyone else). Once he meets the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) or The White Ghost the story picks up the pace and careens to the final showdown with the big bad. Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) is an OK villain seduced by power but despite his being a solid actor I don’t think the part was as fleshed out as I’d have liked and it just felt like so many other villains that he didn’t make that big of an impression. But of course as a nod to diversity he gets a black bestie Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and enigmatic Asian guy Wong (Benedict Wong) who seems to a stick in the mud ‘follow the rules’ type of guy both characters seem to be all about making Dr. Strange a better white superior to all . Did I mention that they justified the Ancient One with a throwaway line of how she’s Gaelic and doesn’t talk about how she got to be the leader .
I don’t want to throw shade but Benedict get a major tan because he’s not as pearly as he normally looks!
At least we have the Black Panther … but my Asian Brothers and Sisters get bupkis with this film. I felt like a kid when I’d watch TV or movies desperately looking for someone who looked like me that were always either in the background or were the hooker or drug dealer. Things have changed but comic book movies still aren’t moving fast enough for me.

Marvel is showing comic book love as they prepare for his breakout movie in a few years with this tie in with the characters best selling comic book series. This video series merges animation, comic book, narration and commentary for a immersion into his world. It’s a great addition for old fans as well as new that don’t know his backstory.

The addition of this video series with a hip hop feel .. hmmm would Marvel’s Super Hero T’Challa, the Black Panther be a hip-hop guy or more jazz with sharp edges .. I’ll let you be the judge of that after watching the series and getting a feel for the character but to me he’s Miles Davis a cool cat who walks his own path in dark smokey rooms!
I didn’t realize that I would want a Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War t-shirt or sweatshirt after seeing the movie but Araca Group is reading my mind with this great selection that will be so convenient after seeing the film! IDW will be releasing the late artist Al Williamson’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back stories in 2016. You may not know Al William’s name but if you love comic books/graphic novels you’ve seen his work starting back in 1950 with EC Comics. In the 1960s he took Alex Raymond’s classic comic strip creation Flash Gordon to the comic book with his iconic reimagining. He also worked on comic strips that included X-9: Secret Agent Corrigan and the Star Wars newspaper strip. His work earned him an Eisner Award and he was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic-Book Hall of Fame in 2000.
