Who really thinks about pizza? All I know is that it’s delicious and if I had to choose a last meal .. it’s pizza. So attending the Pizza Fest: A Tutta Pizza! on Sunday was living the dream. LA Food Bowl and Grow! Brought pizza makers from all over the world to the Hollywood Palladium. I ran around trying to sample all the pizza but when I learned that Enzo Coccia came all the way from Italy to have a pizza workshop I had to attend. He briefly spoke about the origins of pizza that at first they deep fried the dough in olive oil before using the ovens. He spoke of the importance of fresh yeast, air pockets in dough and tomatos! It’s fascinating to see how so many people can take the same ingrediants but put a personal stamp on it to make their pizza unique. Afterwards all the attendees were giving a pizza puff to enjoy and a bag of real Italian rustichella d’abruzzo pasta.

It was a day of fun with photos and pizza .. did I mention pizza? All of them were delicious from the brussell sprout pie beauty to pepperoni it was a tomato, yeasty and cheesy day that showcased great pizza! It really makes me want to not only see the history and beauty of Italy but the food … the glorious food!

The Authentic Italian Table Series cooking workshops are curated by the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce West. The Authentic Italian Table highlights the art of Neapolitan pizza making as well as the values of the Italian food culture. As part of the greater Extraordinary Italian Taste campaign – a promotional and educational project conceived by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, in collaboration with Assocamerestero – this event puts the spotlight on “the queen of the Italian table!”

To celebrate Mother’s Day, I went to A Tutta Pizza!(LA Foodbowl) This event located in the Hollywood Palladium was sponsored by Nissan, Hornitos, Maker’s Mark, and Italia to name a few. La Foodbowl holds fabulous food events all throughout the LA region for the month of May in hope to help raise awareness and funds to combat food waste, hunger, food insecurity, and promote sustainability.

A Tutta Pizza was my first ever food event! I had a lot of fun navigating the scene to make sure I could sample pizza from each of the 20+ pizza vendors on site. Unfortunately, I was not able to achieve that goal, but the next time I attend a similar event I will make sure I visit each table. I enjoyed the carbo-load, and ate every pizza slice in my proximity.

Not only was there unlimited pizza, but LA Foodbowl also had workshops, panels, a photobooth, and a live DJ. I decided to attend the A’ Pizza! A Pizza Lab with Enzo Coccia workshop. There I was taught how to make pizza dough by hand like a true Italian. The workshop was led by Enzo Coccia. He even chose me to help him make deep fried pizza dough. On top of that, I met Jonathan Gold, renown restaurant critic for the LA Times. We even took a picture together.

I was very excited to see that many tables served margarita pizza, which is my favorite. I’m not ashamed to say, I stuffed my face with a few too many slices. As I said above, I attempted to make it around to each table, so I tried a variety of pizza flavors. I even tried pizza topped with purple brussel sprouts! It sounds crazy, but the pizza was both beautiful and tasty. You can’t say I didn’t eat any vegetables. My favorite pizza came from Ray’s and Stark Bar. Their pizza was topped with cute little purple flowers and the cheese was to die for. Personally the most important part of the pizza is cheese, that’s why I love margarita pizza so much. The Ray’s and Stark Bar pizza left a big impression on me and the other guests. It lined traveled across the festival site.

For other fun events visit http://lafoodbowl.com. Comment your favorite pizza below; mine is margarita and goat cheese pizza!

Anyone planning to join me and eat their way across the country? I’m so excited to attend the Culinary Road Trip a Pop-Up dining experience from the great minds of Thrillist this weekend in Hollywood. Looking over the list of locations I’ve either lived or visited every region/city except for Portland! I think that my tastebuds will be flooded with memories from Geno’s Steaks in Philly (you HAVE to order with cheese whiz!) to Giordan’s in Chicago (my first experience with real Chi-Town deep dish – quite embarrassing really my friends and I were on spring break and ordered a pizza. It came to the table with nothing but tomato sauce and no cheese! I said to the waitress that we would like cheese with our pizza and she rolled her eyes and said ‘it’s CHICAGO style the cheese is on the bottom!’ tee hee so embarrassed ). So I can’t WAIT to try some old friends and make new taste memories!

Anyone want to join me for some taste memories this Saturday? Leave a note and let’s get our grub on!

A stomach-stuffing tour of America’s best eats from coast to coast
(Georgetown Cupcakes! Luke’s Lobster rolls! Black Seed Bagels!), all under one roof.
Siren Orange, Studios 1 & 2

Because this “road trip” scores you half a dozen legendary foodstuffs
that you can’t get in LA from culinary masterminds across the country–
including deep-dish slices from Chicago’s Gino’s East,
fresh brews from Portland’s Stumptown Coffee, and more —
