I was invited to celebrate Nissan and the Last Jedi in Hollywood for the second year collaboration with the iconic film series. They had two days of celebration with the Light Side and the Dark Side of the Force. I despite being a Jedi missed the Light Side so had to turn to the Dark of the Empire. Happily it was in a Nissan Rogue that had me impressed from the moment my eyes saw them in the Roosevelt Hotel Parking lot. Nissan brought the new redesigned 2018 Nissan Leaf and Nissan Rogue. I was very impressed seeing the new design and direction of Nissan that is embracing useful technology to improve the lives of drivers. This was my second spin in Nissan after test driving the 2018 Nissan Leaf that was quite a delight with it’s pep, increased mileage and the fact that it’s damned sexy for an affordable EV and in North America you get free charging for two years!
I am fascinated by Nissan Intelligent Mobility I noticed the display at the 2017 LA Auto Show but it wasn’t until I was a passenger that I saw it first hand. I consider myself someone who embraces technology so at first my curiosity thought it was simply a better display, new navigation system or better blind spot warnings. No Nissan Intelligent Mobility is so much more than that as I got quite the surprise on the 101 highway in Los Angeles. I was the passenger looking at the new interior and chatting with my co-pilot when she say’s ‘look’. I glanced over and realized her hands were not on the steering wheel in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic. Like all of you I immediately said ‘look out we’re going to get in an accident’. Again she says ‘look’ and than she wiggles her legs. The car was driving itself and
as a geek I was very excited but as an LA driver I was freaking out. But than she explained that it is able to ‘see’ the lines so it would ‘drive’ down the road as well as the system was able to retain a distance from other autos. My mind was blown as Ilooked at her feet and hands. She explained that you can set the system to drive the speed limit and I thought what will Nissan think up next since this felt very futuristic to me!!!
Now I have to say getting used to Nissan Intelligent Mobility will be a little hard for me but if I could have the option on my car or suv well sign me up. I’m lucky to live in LA the land of the eternal sun but sometimes during the rare rainstorm I’d love to have that assurance that I’d make it home. So I am very curious how the system works in adverse weather from rain to sleet to snow as well as driving at night. Now this isn’t a situation where you can take a nap in the backseat and program the car to drive you to the next county but it definitely is a useful upgrade for those who drive and want to have extra safety features. I would love to have this for a long drive on the highway to really see how it works. It was very simple to use and for the couple of miles we went down the road was mesmerizing. I literally couldn’t take my eyes off the steering wheel and kept glancing at the brakes.
My first impression of Nissan Intelligent Mobility is curious fascination. I think it would take a while for me to feel confident using this tech that is completely new to me but I’m very adaptable so know that I would adjust pretty quickly. If you are looking for a new car/suv/truck and enjoy new tech this is something you have to check out. I think it’s work the money since it would be useful for driving around town and on the highway. The only way I could adore it more is if it spoke in the R2D2 voice!
The final season kicked off with a bang or should I say clang as Sabine Wren is back and kicking Empire Ass with the help of her family and Mandalorian army! Don’t ready ANY further if you haven’t seen Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Premier
SPOILERS (don’t read any further)
The final season kicked off with a bang or should I say clang as Sabine Wren is back and kicking Empire Ass with the help of her family and Mandalorian army! Star Wars Rebels has always been on a bit of a parallel path where I know it takes place somewhere before the original series but have never been sure when they would ‘catch up’. It seems that Dave and team have decided to tie up some loose ends and I am here for exploring how the Mandlorians switched sides. I’m hoping in the final season we’ll get more focus on each major character as we bid adieu. I have to say I probably know the characters a little better than some after reading how Hera & Kanan met in “Star Wars: A New Dawn” by John Jackson Miller (if you haven’t read go buy NOW).
The two episodes focus on Sabine trying to rescue her father from a rival clan and the civil war between two sides fighting for the Rebels and the Empire. Sabine is a young woman under incredible pressure trying to lead her people against such a major foe and despite all of her experiences fighting on the Ghost ground combat is a new kettle of fish especially when emotions can get in the way of thinking clearly. This was especially true when after finally succeeding and getting her father while her family is distracting stormtroopers. Sabine recognizes a sound and only warns her family (made me think a LOT less of her) to flee the new weapon unleashed by the Empire. It turns out when she was a student in a program to design weapons and one has bitten her in the bottom … well the armour since it’s been configured to ONLY kill Mandolorians. As she’s confronted by fellow rebels she explains that she never thought they’d be used and only thought of them as an abstract puzzle. Sabine (Tiya Sircar) is filled with guilt but also nerves of steel as she plots to figure out how to get the weapon away from the Empire. All the while this is going on she has to navigate her relationship with her father that seems loving but of course she followed in her mother’s footsteps not her artistic fathers. We got a major treat with seeing old fan favorite Bo-Katan from The Clone Wars, Ursa Wren and Sabine interact as they figure out their places in the echelon. If you’re a long time fan you can remember how differently all three women lead and strategize. We were reminded that because of civil war what was once a lush green planet is now a desert and you can’t help but wonder if the problem isn’t the Empire but the culture that doesn’t know how to compromise or be peaceful. Of course Clan Saxon with dreams of dictatorship is so villainous that at the end I was cheering for them to get what they deserve as well as thinking that maybe they should give up the armor! It seems to make them warriors first and last with a shoot first attitude that will lead to their annihilation. Ezra and Kanan offered not only a little comic relif, foils to explain history but also emotional growth as once again Ezra flirts with the
darkside. The two part premier was a great bridge to showing how the main characters have matured, hints to the paths they will walk as we hurtle to the finale and the reunion between Hera and Kanan. It feels that as the Ghost crew matures Hera is respecting them more and sharing her many secrets from Mon Mothma. We saw few glimpses that Ezra’s Jedi powers have grown but he’s still is learning from Kanan but he’s so drawn to anger that I think Darth Maul still has a hold of his heart. I love how Chopper gave the prisoners orders and was in CHARGE! It was a hoot and a reminder that Chopper can defend himself when it comes right down to it! Brains and Brawns is my type of computer friend!
“Heroes of Mandalore” was a great premier episode to show us how much are rebel alliance has grown despite failures but how close to the edge they are to splintering apart with extremists whispering ‘sweet nothings’ of revenge. I’m hoping to see more stories focused on Zeb, Saw Gerra and my favorite Rebel deep throat turncoat!
Star Wars Rebels on MONDAY, OCTOBER 30 at 9pm ET/PT on Disney XD with TWO episodes. In “The Occupation,” Ezra and the Ghost crew are called back to Lothal when a new Imperial threat rises and “Flight of the Defender,” Ezra and Sabine steal an Imperial prototype TIE fighter but must rely on some unexpected help to escape from Thrawn.
Ezra and the Ghost crew return to Lothal on MONDAY, OCTOBER 30 (9:00 p.m. ET/PT) on Disney XD in a one-hour block of back-to-back episodes of “Star Wars Rebels.” The two new episodes – “The Occupation” and “Flight of the Defender” – will also be available MONDAY, OCTOBER 30 (12:01 a.m. PT)
I can’t believe it’s the final season of Star Wars Rebels! The one-hour premier episode ‘Heroes of Mandalore: Parts One and Two’ is this Monday, October 16th. The fourth and final season of “Star Wars Rebels” will have five airings of the “Heroes of Mandalore: Parts One and Two” throughout the day (12:30am, 3:00am, 7:30am, 5:30pm and 9pm EDT/PDT) on Disney XD and the DisneyNow App.
Sabine is back to rescue her father from the Empire but this time she has Ezra, Kanan, and she’s leading an army of Mandalorians! But the Empire has resurrected a devastating weapon to use against the rebels and Sabine is torn between destroying or using it to fight them.
Before season four begins, binge-watch seasons one through three of “Star Wars Rebels” available now on the DisneyNow App.

Nothing reminds me of the passing of time more than the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars and that the AARP Magazine has a special article in the April Issue. I’m not quite old enough to subscribe to AARP but I’ve loved Star Wars since I was a child and love to learn about the beloved series.
The article will have Star Wars trivia in a special article that will be full of fun facts from the past forty years if you are a member of the Empire or part of the Rebel Forces or a Jedi! The article will not just talk about the original trilogy but the new films as well. The facts will include how they got the TIE fighter’s engine with sound editors blend an elephant’s trumpeting call with the swoosh of a car driving through puddles. If you stay till the credits in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story you’ll see that it took almost 2,000 people to bring it to the screen. If you look closely at the Phantom Menace (1999) Senate scene you’ll notice that a few aliens look like E.T. cousins! If you want to learn about the rest of the Star Wars facts you’ll have to pick up the latest issue of the AARP Magazine (April).
I saw Rogue One and was intrigued by the Rebel Freedom Fighter Saw Gerrera played by Academy Award Winner Forest Whitaker. I am very excited to get to know Saw better when he joins the Ghost Rebels Kanan, Hera, Sabine, Zeb and Ezra to fight the Empire.
“It’s an incredible honor to have Forest Whitaker play Saw in ‘Rebels,'” says series executive producer Dave Filoni. “Forest did a great job at capturing Saw in a way that is a bit mad, a bit crazed, a bit afraid, but also a bit sympathetic. He sees something coming, but no one will take action before it’s too late.”
If you are getting confused about what time period the Disney XD series fits in the Star Wars film history it’s a prequel to the new film Rogue One. Forest will be voicing Saw Gerrera (from the film) in the debut episode “Star Wars Rebels: Ghosts of Genesis, Parts One & Two” that premiers Saturday, January 7th (8:30-9:30 PM EST).
It’s very exciting to hear from Dave and the team behind the animated series that is enriching the Star Wars mythology! Dave’s work on Clone Wars and Rebels is such a labor of love from a fanboy who grew up to work with George Lucas. Dave’s work on the series is a bridge for not only the films but also to fans young and old. What I love about the series is that they give us an opportunity to delve into characters and stories that can unfold as only a weekly series can as opposed to a film with a finite amount of time.
The character of Saw Gerrera was first introduced in the TV series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-2015) as a guerrilla fighter for his home planet. Created by George Lucas, Saw received training from the Jedi – Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano – and served as an early harbinger of the Rebel Alliance, an assortment of disparate groups coming together to fight for a common cause.
