If you are looking for a new brunch spot with great views near the LAX I have to let you in on my new spot secret <shh>.

I was invited to enjoy a brunch with a few other people and get to enjoy a private dining experience. I drove over with a vague plan of enjoying conversation and a little shopping since it’s so near the independent shops and the Culver City mall. When I first drove up I realized the area has changed with so many new buildings as well as the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel upgrade. It was simple to park my car with the valet, stroll into the light bright foyer and into Costero.

The first thing I noticed was that the décor was bright and reminded me of my beloved boutique hotels where I normally stay when traveling. The nice hum of guests checking in and out after an enjoyable night as well as seeing people sitting by the pool soaking in the California sun.

I loved the design of the reception area that offers not only seating with lots of natural light but also a work area for people to plug in laptops/cell phones and other devices (can I just say how GREAT it is to have a plethora of outlets!). Everyone was relaxed and quietly working or just using their phones. One of my biggest frustrations when traveling for work is looking around for an electrical socket! When my phone is down to 7% I feel like I’m in the Hunger Games competing and willing to fight to the death for the last one. They also have a couple of seating areas to accommodate everyone from families to individuals.

Once I walked past the bar (hello Happy Hour) and entered the private room the first thing I noticed was the crag quiche that looked so yummy. Everyone raved over the buttery Crab Quiche and I have to say I was so tempted to take a bite (alas seafood allergies). The scent of Cinnamon was calling me from across the room with their freshly made Doughnuts with Anglais Sauce. They were my first bite and didn’t disappoint. Light and airy with the perfect doughy melt in your mouth that teamed up with my coffee had me planning brunch with friends as we shop on the west side for the holidays. The menu selection was a delight that danced across my tongue. I could not resist the Brussels Sprouts and Pork Belly with the homemade parker house rolls. Did I mention that I have a weakness for carbs?? I was incredibly impressed with Costero Bar Bistro’s food that is worth the trip! Normally when I stay in a hotel I don’t eat in the restaurant but I was incredibly impressed with the food and presentation. The sauces, seasonings and variety of items are appealing to everyone no matter what dietary restrictions they may have.

What a wonderful brunch finished off with the signature Sheratini that was all kind of right. Next time you plan on flying out of LAX you have to check in to the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles where they offer a work lounge overlooking the runway, a great bar, delicious food AND a shuttle. It’s a win win for a staycation, travelers and locals looking for a new place to enjoy a night out.

Well I thought for a minute that I’d blow dry my hair straight or elongate my curly coily hair for fear of not fitting in with all of the golf fans attending. But than I thought no matter what it’s pretty obvious I’m a black woman AND pleasingly plump so what the heck I’m going to attend as ‘me’. So am going to head to Seattle on June 19th my hair in all it’s kinky glory. I might even blow it out for a cool afro since I’m sure it will rain or at the least be damp (it is Seattle) for three days in the Pacific Northwest!

I’m a bit of plus size fashionista in a conservative sort of way so don’t plan to wear a micro mini to traipse in the grass but do plan to rock a few cute outfits. I was looking at Eloquii for some stylish ensembles but nothing spoke to me.  I liked a few of the dresses (but not casual enough and didn’t look walkable) and some of the skirts (but am Studio Midi Skirt Hot Orangepartial to natural cotton). I LOVED the Studio Midi Skirts in cotton(yummy cute) but the colors I loved (red, yellow and orange) are sold out online <phooey>

But luckily I found my size on the  Nordstrom site (well one size too big but can return or have hemmed) in two   Alternate Product Image 1fabulous colors. Red and White so perfect for this
summer hot days in Los Angeles. This will be my first time with this line so am hoping they look as cute on me as the ELOQUII Full Midi Skirt (Plus Size)model. If not I will return them at the Grove location . Since I was on Nordstrom I tried the rack online and got some cute sperry topsiders (hopefully they’ll be better than the last pair I bought the interior lining came off) in Merino Jersey Top (Plus Size)Malibu Boat Shoewhite. I even took a gander at HauteLook where I got a ton of tops (a lovely bright yellow summer weight sweater) and a few other items. Perfect for a cool weekend in Seattle to watch the PGA Tour and hit the Star Wars Exhibit at the EMS Museum. I’m so excited to have won this weekend from Lexus but DAMN it’s going to be expensive with my new wardrobe additions. Ah well have to look my best .. never know who I’ll meet. Plus they will be great to wear to work with a blouse!

Displaying New.Gaslight-Logo.jpgI got introduced to the Gaslight Gathering Convention when they had a table at last year’s Stan Lee’s Comikaze where I did a brief interview (link on YouTube) about the fun steampunk convention.  It’s a great way to be introduced to the Steampunk lifestyle since she’s such a friendly welcoming person that is accepting of everyone.  I know as someone who LOVES conventions but hasn’t tried cosplay I think this is the event that might get me all decked out with somewhere to go.  I love fashion, the Victorian Era style (VERY complimentary for plus size ladies) and that the men are sooo dashing spats so sexy!  Also that I’m a big lover of San Diego!  It’s especially welcoming since SDCC can be overwhelmed with the sheer mob of all the attendees and that it’s so spread out.

gas038xThe event also has Victorian Tea perfect event for anyone of all ages.  It’s the perfect opportunity to be transported in time especially those with fancy dolls .. American Doll girls I’m talking to YOU..well parents and grandparents who will PAY for the ticket <snicker>), the opportunity to attend the ball (I LOVE dancing) and a

tour of the Gaslamp District!!!  What’s not to love especially since the hotel is offering a great deal for attendees!    So let’s head down to San Diego and explore our Steampunk Side!  If you’re unsure of what it takes make sure you go to Gaslight Gathering where they have photos of previous attendees as well as follow their Facebook page for outfit ideas!
