The final season kicked off with a bang or should I say clang as Sabine Wren is back and kicking Empire Ass with the help of her family and Mandalorian army! Don’t ready ANY further if you haven’t seen Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Premier

SPOILERS (don’t read any further)

The final season kicked off with a bang or should I say clang as Sabine Wren is back and kicking Empire Ass with the help of her family and Mandalorian army! Star Wars Rebels has always been on a bit of a parallel path where I know it takes place somewhere before the original series but have never been sure when they would ‘catch up’. It seems that Dave and team have decided to tie up some loose ends and I am here for exploring how the Mandlorians switched sides. I’m hoping in the final season we’ll get more focus on each major character as we bid adieu. I have to say I probably know the characters a little better than some after reading how Hera & Kanan met in “Star Wars: A New Dawn” by John Jackson Miller (if you haven’t read go buy NOW).

The two episodes focus on Sabine trying to rescue her father from a rival clan and the civil war between two sides fighting for the Rebels and the Empire. Sabine is a young woman under incredible pressure trying to lead her people against such a major foe and despite all of her experiences fighting on the Ghost ground combat is a new kettle of fish especially when emotions can get in the way of thinking clearly. This was especially true when after finally succeeding and getting her father while her family is distracting stormtroopers. Sabine recognizes a sound and only warns her family (made me think a LOT less of her) to flee the new weapon unleashed by the Empire. It turns out when she was a student in a program to design weapons and one has bitten her in the bottom … well the armour since it’s been configured to ONLY kill Mandolorians. As she’s confronted by fellow rebels she explains that she never thought they’d be used and only thought of them as an abstract puzzle. Sabine (Tiya Sircar) is filled with guilt but also nerves of steel as she plots to figure out how to get the weapon away from the Empire. All the while this is going on she has to navigate her relationship with her father that seems loving but of course she followed in her mother’s footsteps not her artistic fathers. We got a major treat with seeing old fan favorite Bo-Katan from The Clone Wars, Ursa Wren and Sabine interact as they figure out their places in the echelon. If you’re a long time fan you can remember how differently all three women lead and strategize. We were reminded that because of civil war what was once a lush green planet is now a desert and you can’t help but wonder if the problem isn’t the Empire but the culture that doesn’t know how to compromise or be peaceful. Of course Clan Saxon with dreams of dictatorship is so villainous that at the end I was cheering for them to get what they deserve as well as thinking that maybe they should give up the armor! It seems to make them warriors first and last with a shoot first attitude that will lead to their annihilation. Ezra and Kanan offered not only a little comic relif, foils to explain history but also emotional growth as once again Ezra flirts with the

darkside. The two part premier was a great bridge to showing how the main characters have matured, hints to the paths they will walk as we hurtle to the finale and the reunion between Hera and Kanan. It feels that as the Ghost crew matures Hera is respecting them more and sharing her many secrets from Mon Mothma. We saw few glimpses that Ezra’s Jedi powers have grown but he’s still is learning from Kanan but he’s so drawn to anger that I think Darth Maul still has a hold of his heart. I love how Chopper gave the prisoners orders and was in CHARGE! It was a hoot and a reminder that Chopper can defend himself when it comes right down to it! Brains and Brawns is my type of computer friend!

“Heroes of Mandalore” was a great premier episode to show us how much are rebel alliance has grown despite failures but how close to the edge they are to splintering apart with extremists whispering ‘sweet nothings’ of revenge. I’m hoping to see more stories focused on Zeb, Saw Gerra and my favorite Rebel deep throat turncoat!

The final and fourth season of Star Wars Rebels will premier Monday, October 16th on Disney XD

Well in the final season the Ghost crew joins the Rebel Alliance that is having a hard time against the enormous and powerful Galactic Empire. It becomes even more personal for Ezra as the Empire threatens Lothal with Imperial Occupation. The entire crew goes back to fight an all foe the evil genius Grand Admiral Thrown. Going home means that they will reunite with old friends and make new alliances to try to throw the Imperials off his home planet.

What do YOU think is in store for our ragtag crew of rebels? I’m hoping that we’ll see more of Kanan & Hera’s relationship (I read the book about how the met <swoon>). I don’t think that Sabine will never stop thinking of Ezra as her ‘kid brother’ but I don’t think we’ll get a Princess Leia/Luke reveal that he’s REALLY her brother! I’m very excited about meeting some of the new characters and creatures in the final season. I love the alien creature we’ve met over the past three seasons on Star Wars Rebels and can’t wait to see what Dave and the team think up for the epic final season! Leave a comment below or tweet me @cherry_LA with what have been some of your favorite episodes, stories and characters! Let’s live tweet the premier episode and get ready to be on the edge of our seats as the final epic season unfolds. May the force be with you …..

I saw Rogue One and was intrigued by the Rebel Freedom Fighter Saw Gerrera played by Academy Award Winner Forest Whitaker. I am very excited to get to know Saw better when he joins the Ghost Rebels Kanan, Hera, Sabine, Zeb and Ezra to fight the Empire.

“It’s an incredible honor to have Forest Whitaker play Saw in ‘Rebels,'” says series executive producer Dave Filoni. “Forest did a great job at capturing Saw in a way that is a bit mad, a bit crazed, a bit afraid, but also a bit sympathetic. He sees something coming, but no one will take action before it’s too late.”

If you are getting confused about what time period the Disney XD series fits in the Star Wars film history it’s a prequel to the new film Rogue One. Forest will be voicing Saw Gerrera (from the film) in the debut episode “Star Wars Rebels: Ghosts of Genesis, Parts One & Two” that premiers Saturday, January 7th (8:30-9:30 PM EST).

It’s very exciting to hear from Dave and the team behind the animated series that is enriching the Star Wars mythology! Dave’s work on Clone Wars and Rebels is such a labor of love from a fanboy who grew up to work with George Lucas. Dave’s work on the series is a bridge for not only the films but also to fans young and old. What I love about the series is that they give us an opportunity to delve into characters and stories that can unfold as only a weekly series can as opposed to a film with a finite amount of time.

The character of Saw Gerrera was first introduced in the TV series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-2015) as a guerrilla fighter for his home planet. Created by George Lucas, Saw received training from the Jedi – Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano – and served as an early harbinger of the Rebel Alliance, an assortment of disparate groups coming together to fight for a common cause.

Ezra’s growing up as is his ability to use the force with the guidance of Kanan. But with great ability comes temptation and the siren call of the dark side is waging a war within Ezra’s soul as the third season has the team embarking on new responsibilities and danger. The rebels new base of operations on Atollon has given them some safety but they have a bullseye on their back with Grand Admiral Thrawn working to bring the crew of the Ghost and all the ‘rebel scum’ down. Unlike past enemies who used force and sheer numbers to try to eradicate the rebels they Grand Admiral instead plans to use his intellect to outthink the empire’s enemies.

Star Wars Rebels premier ‘Steps into Shadow’ will be an hour event introducing new enemies and (hopefully) friends to the universe. Ezra and Sabine are given more responsibility and challenges that will put them in grave danger. The entire rebel forces will have difficult choices aith an all out assault on the Empire! The crew of the Ghost will be challenged this season and (I for one) am hoping they’ll all stay safe and give the empire heck!

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Executive Producer Dave Filoni during a “Star Wars Rebels” voice recording session

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Executive Producer Dave Filoni during a “Star Wars Rebels” voice recording session

Well I’ve been excited about Star Wars Rebels after getting a chance to interview some of the cast at the 2014 San Diego Comic Con. I was able to have exclusive interviews (roundtable with Steve Blum  & Vanessa Marshall (Hera) with  Zeb (Steve Blum), Ezra (Taylor Gray)Tiya Sircar (Sabine). So watching the first season I have to say I did compare the first episode to Star Wars Clone Wars since Dave Filoni (interview at 2012 SDCC) is still the executive producer/supervising director but once I stopped saying to myself well it doesn’t look like clone wars, it’s new people and why did it have to end <wahhh>!!! I quickly grew to love my hard scrabble rebels trying to jumpstart a rebellion all alone! I mean as a geek chick how could I resist a female pilot Hera who stands up to the boys and STILL takes it straight to the Empire. I love a woman who won’t back down and Vanessa really is able to bring a new voice to the Star Wars universe not only as an adult but also as a new ‘Han Solo’ type instead of the usual damsel in distress that is in most action toons and movies! As the season has gone on Dave has really taken the time to give the characters time to develop a backstory that plays into their personality. When we first meet Ezra he’s just a smart aleck kid who I thought was going to be a dark haired Luke. Than as you got to know him you realize he was on his own and had to be self sufficient in a cold hard world. Sabine is woman who wants to use art to get people thinking about everything that the Empire has taken from them as well as kicking some major bootie as she flys around like Boba Fett!

I’m so excited for the second season of Star Wars Rebels after a finale that blew me away!

Like lots of Star Wars Fans I’ve been watching the new series on Disney XD and with the season finale I was blown away. (SPOILERS) The introduction in the final moments of Darth Vader  and getting to know the characters over the past months has been a huge pleasure.  Now I get to anticipate Sarah Michelle Gellar joining the cast and I wonder if she’ll cause trouble between Kanan and his lady love pilot Hera! Will she join as a part of the new rebel alliance that we just met in the season finale OR will she instead be with the Empire intent on the destruction of the Rebels? Drama bomb!!!

All I can say is that I hope Sarah has some crazy lightsaber that will remind all of us fangirls and fanboys first meeting her as Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Hopefully she, the cast and director will be joining us at the Star Wars Celebration 2015 in Anaheim! I know that I want to ask what it will be like to work with Freddie Prinze Jr., (her husband) again. What it’s like to join the Star Wars Universe. Has she been to Skywalker Ranch. AND has she had a chance to get her hands on an original lightsaber! Squeal my geek fangirl inner nerd is starting to show! Is it wrong that I want to ask her about Buffy the Vampire Slayer since like any crazy fan I can’t help but wonder if she’ll visit the universe again.  I have to say it’s unlikely but what can I say so many questions that I need to ask!
