It’s all Golden for the 41st Anniversary 4K Restoration in Theaters July 5-7
It’s been 41 years since This is Spinal Tap put the spandex in this Rock Comedy that influenced fans for generations. It’s a love letter to sex and Rock n’ Roll and has a special place in fans hearts and lycra covered booties!
Then the sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues jumps onto screens September 12th Nationwide!
When the film was first released in 1984 viewers thought Spinal Tap was a real film and it was a real documentary. The film is beloved from rock stars that include Jimmy Page, Ozzy Osbourne, Jerry Cantrell and many others who experienced similar backstage shenanigans! Lars Ulrich of Metallica has discussed the co-headlining tour with Guns N’ Roses as a ‘Spinal Tap’ experience. The film even influenced Smell the Glove on their Black Album.Â
Who knew that a sketch from a 1978 comedy pilot would make it to the screen after studios passed and was backed by Norman Lear with a $2 million dollar budget.
It was shot documentary style with handheld 16mm cameras, 100 hours of footage and all the dialogue was improvised. It was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2002 for being culturally and historically significant.
