Prey, the new 20th Century Studios/Hulu film set in the Predator universe, held its World Premiere at San Diego Comic-Con, and the cast and crew received a standing ovation when it was over.
“You guys are the first, and some of the only people to get to see this on the big screen,” said Prey‘s director Dan Trachtenberg to the audience. For whatever reason, 20th Century‘s parent company Disney is skipping theaters and taking this (and most 20th Century projects) straight to its Hulu streaming service.
Based on an original idea by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison, the movie is the latest installment in the Predator franchise which began with John McTiernan’s 1987 movie of the same name starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Prey is set in 1719 and sees a Predator landing in the Northern Great Plains, ready to hunt.
Amber Midthunder stars as Naru, a fierce young woman who is determined to prove herself a worthy warrior. While out hunting she comes across the Predator and must use her wits and hunting skills to defeat the alien before it reaches her camp.
Trachtenberg and Midthunder participated in a Q&A session with Collider‘s Steve Weintraub, along with Dane DiLiegro (the Predator), Dakota Beavers (Taabe) and producer Jhane Myers. Cherry the Geek TV was there and has the full Q&A for you to enjoy. You can watch by clicking on the link below:
Prey will stream on Hulu starting August 5th in the United States and on Disney+ and Star+ in other territories.
