I’m so excited to head to Hall H to hear Brad Bird speak about his upcoming animated film, Ray Gunn exclusively streaming on Netflix December 18, 2026.
I’ve fallen in love with his directorial style after seeing my favorite holiday movie, ‘The Iron Giant’ that I watch every year. Brad always films with different styles, but he has a magic that I can always tell is one of his films because of the spirit and his eye.
There’s a big chunk of people who don’t watch animation. That’s a group I’m anxious to persuade because it’s an amazing art form that is way too limited in people’s minds.
Brad Bird tells Tudum
This is the film time he is working with Netflix on a film project, and it appears to be a gumshow type of story with a art deco visual style, but with the tech we all dream of aka flying cars, personal jetpacks to avoid the rush hour commute, and alien friends (or is that just what I dream of?).
It’s been a challenge to do something new and get it made on a big scale, so I was really happy that Netflix saw potential in this. Animation as a medium is too interesting to limit what kind of stories can be told.
