Today’s Free Fridays selection, Blood Ties, is the first book in Lori G. Armstrong’s gripping Julie Collins mystery series.

Julie Collins spends her days working as a secretary at the county sheriff’s office fantasizing about solving crimes on her own. But unlike most daydreaming desk jockeys, Julie actually takes matters into her own hands by moonlighting as a private investigator. Driven by her half-brother’s murder, Julie believes she can give proper attention to unsolved crimes that law enforcement has abandoned, and possibly find out more about his untimely death along the way.

In Blood Ties, when a local 16 year-old is murdered, Julie partners with her childhood friend Kevin to glean clues by re-tracing the girl’s final days. The more they find out about this unfortunate crime, the more it sounds familiar to both Julie and Kevin, opening old wounds and making them confront their own past.

Free Fridays Recommends

Each week, we ask our featured author to recommend a book or author that you may want to check out. Since authors are such passionate readers themselves, we thought you might like to find out what they love to read, too! Here’s what Lori recommends:

Since I love all things about the west, I’d recommend Lorelei James’ Western romance Chasin’ Eight, in the Rough Riders series. The book is about determination, family, love, and features one smokin’ hot and sweet bullrider who’s trying to find his place in the world. Don’t miss it!
