I can’t wait to see my family and friends from Arlen, Texas on Hulu
It’s not often I wished I was in Texas BUT I really wish I was able to attend the ATX TV Panel and hear first-hand about the upcoming return of King of the Hill with co-creators and executive producers Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, executive producer and showrunner Saladin K. Patterson, and voice cast members Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom and Toby Huss.
I can’t believe that it’s been almost fifteen years since the final episode aired in 2010. I grew up watching the show with my family and we’d laugh so hard. I felt like such a Bobby a weird kid that had a few friends that accepted him! I am excited for the fourteenth season that will premier on Monday, August, 4th with ten episodes.
“We lived in Richardson, Texas right outside of Dallas in the late 80s/early 90s. I remember seeing ‘Do the Right Thing’ and thinking, even though I’d never been to Brooklyn, this feels real. Why can’t someone do that for our little neighborhood? You hadn’t seen anything like that – where it was just observational, regular people. And I just kept thinking about that – and it being grounded and observational.” Mike Judge
The revival series will bring the Hank and Peggy back to Arlen, Texas after working in Saudia Arabia with his beloved propane so that they can retire surrounded by old friends. But time has passed and I assume they will not be prepared for all the changes. Bobby, Connie and her family have all moved to Dallas where he’s working as a chef.
“I mean every couple of years Kathy [Najimy] would send me this thing and be like ‘Did you see this thing?!’ and it would be rumblings on a chat page or something to bring it back….and so I never get gassed up until it’s real. Even at Sketchfest, [which was] the best feeling and experience, I was like, ‘It’s never going to happen,’ because it’s too big of a dream I guess.”, Pamela Adlon
Season 14 synopsis: After years working a propane job in Saudi Arabia to earn their retirement nest egg, Hank and Peggy Hill return to a changed Arlen, Texas, to reconnect with old friends Dale, Boomhauer and Bill. Meanwhile, Bobby is living his dream as a chef in Dallas and enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph and Chane.
Series synopsis: Set in the fictional Arlen, Texas, the original series followed the life of Hank Hill, an enthusiastic seller of propane and propane accessories; his wife, Peggy, local Boggle champ and substitute teacher; and their son, Bobby, who defied any expectation his father had for a son. Hank’s friends – conspiracy theorist Dale, military barber Bill, and cool but inarticulate Boomhauer, along with Peggy’s friends Minh and meteorologist Nancy, and Bobby’s friend Connie helped the Hills navigate a changing world. The Emmy® Award-winning series ran for 13 seasons on Fox and all seasons now stream on Hulu.
The series stars Mike Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Johnny Hardwick, Stephen Root, Lauren Tom and Toby Huss.
What do you think will happen in the new series and what are you looking for? I’m excited to see a adult Bobby and Connie!
