Third Annual ANIMATION IS FILM is on October 18-20 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. TICKETS ON SALE

In partnership with Annecy, we are thrilled to present our third annual slate of amazing animated filmmaking from around the world.  The range of artistry on display this year for LA audiences is truly remarkable, from celebrated Cannes, Venice, and Annecy winners, to enormous box office megahits, to lovingly told personal stories. From self-taught, first-time filmmakers to revered masters. From expressionistic to cartoony to photo-realistic to provocatively experimental. There is stop motion, hand drawn, hand painted, 3D CGI, comedy, romance, heart-rending drama, psychological thriller, epic fantasy, and so much more that simply can’t be categorized. If anyone still suffers under the misimpression that animation is a family entertainment genre, the festival will open their eyes to the wide, practically unlimited possibilities that this potent artform is capable of.

Eric Beckman, Founder GKIDS and AIF

The ANIMATION IS FILM Festival will include animated feature films from Asia, Europe, South America and North America, with both juried and audience prizes. Makoto Shinkai’s hugely successful WEATHERING WITH YOU will open the festival with Shinkai and producer Genki Kawamura in attendance. Closing the festival will be France’s I LOST MY BODY, with director Jeremy Clapin and producer Marc du Pontavice in attendance.

For the Third Annual Festival their will be 10 feature films in competition, vying for Grand Prize, Special Jury Prize, and Audiences Award. The three day festival will present special screenings, retrospectives, short films, panel discussions, sneak peek “making of” and “behind the scenes” presentations, plus non-stop receptions and parties.

The quality and diversity of the films presented at Animation Is Film this year reinforces Annecy’s satisfaction of being associated with an event that has already found its place after only 2 editions and is a genuine springboard in North America for the world’s best independent animation.

Final day of the Indian Film Festival Los Angeles 2019

So many great films to choose from!

It’s the 16th year of the 2019 Indian Film Festival Los Angeles bringing the opportunity to see films with Indian cast and creators to walk in the footsteps of their imagination. The closing night film is ‘The Odds’. The festival is at the Regal Cinema DTLA with comedy, drama and documentaries.

On the day of a major exam that could help determine her future, eccentric Vivek decides to take a slightly strange stand against the system. When things don’t go as she planned, well-heeled and cute Ashwin gets caught up in her antics and the two play truant from school. As the young would-be couple wanders the streets of Mumbai and gets to know each other, the past, present and future of their relationship play out in hilarious and magical ways.

Deftly dodging the stereotypical approaches that focus on teenage women in terms of matrimony or victimhood, THE ODDS is the special kind of tale that revels in the joys of being young. Amidst the teenage awkwardness of attraction, the desire to express yourself in a way never seen before, and the fear you might not be as special as you think, writer/director and IFFLA alum Megha Ramaswamy tells the kind of story about growing up in India today unlike anything you have seen before. A fairy tale inspired by the real world, THE ODDS is for the young, the romantic, and the odd.

Now in its 17th year, the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) is a nonprofit organization devoted to a greater appreciation of Indian cinema and culture by showcasing films and promoting the diverse perspectives of the Indian diaspora.

The four-day festival is the premiere platform for the latest in cutting-edge global Indian cinema and bridges the gap between the two largest entertainment industries in the world – Hollywood and India. The festival will showcase nearly 25 films from the Indian filmmaking community across the globe, host the highly anticipated Opening and Closing red carpet Galas, and the Closing Awards ceremony.

Speak your truth America to Me Spoken Word Contest

What does America mean to me? It’s a question that we all ask ourselves at times when we read the paper, watch the news or just listen to what people in “MAGA” hats say to our faces. Well STARZ is putting money to ask US Students to answer the question with a spoken word contest to win $25,000 scholarship before their new documentary series ‘America To Me’ premiers on August 26th (details below). STARZ is partnering with Emmy Award®-Winning Filmmaker Steve James and Participant Media on the 10 episode series that starts Sunday, August 26 at 10 PM ET/PT.“This spoken word contest encourages students to share, in their own words, what it’s like to live and learn in America today,” said Alison Hoffman, Chief Marketing Officer for Starz. “It’s illuminating to hear the students of Oak Park tell their stories in the series, and we look forward to hearing different perspectives from students around the country.”
If you haven’t heard of the new limited series ‘America to Me’ follows suburban Chicago school Oak Park and River Forest High School from students to teachers to administrators who attend and work at the country’s highest performing and diverse public school for a year. “America to Me” made its world premiere with the first five episodes at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival in the new “Indie Episodic” category and previews were shown on Full Frame and AFI DOCS. They will show the racial and educational inequality (the long-held ‘separate but equal’) that stems from race and class that create generations of people not able to get the opportunity for success. It’s the same old song with today’s teenagers dancing to a new beat that the US education continual fail by accident or design (I believe by design).
I am very curious what James will see and show how the funding of schools are inherently unfair and penalize people of color, the poor and even middle class. If you are lucky enough to send your child to a school with enough rich/affluent parents who are able to ‘gift’ the school or just their child’s class is not easily quantified. It’s why I’ve always felt that all schools should have a base no matter the tax bracket of the area to educate all children equally. Education shouldn’t just be having the bare minimum of old books, broken desks/chairs and no enrichment programs. I’m sure like many you have opinions about what needs to be changed, replicated, done away with or are working in the school system locally or nationally. I think we should examine successful education programs across the world and import to the USA from children learning multiple languages to how STEAM is taught. If you want to talk join others to share your thoughts’s open to students between 14 – 19 to record a 60-second original spoken word video that answers the question ‘What does America mean to me?’ Entry submissions are being accepted through October 7 via Instagram or Twitter using #AmericatoMeContest and #STARZ hashtags or by uploading it to esteemed panel of judges will select the top five finalists whose videos will be posted on on October 14, giving America the opportunity to vote and select a winner through October 22. The winner of the $25,000 scholarship will be announced on October 28.The “Share Your Voice” contest is an extension of Starz and Participant Media’s social impact campaign partnership designed to encourage candid conversations about racial equality. Together, they joined forces to create a downloadable Community Conversation Toolkit and, alongside the release of each new episode, the campaign will host a high-profile screening event in one city across the country. Over the course of the 10 weeks, these events will seed a timely national dialogue anchored by the series, and kick off activities across the country to inspire students, teachers, parents and community leaders to develop local initiatives that address inequities in their own communities. Am heading to 2018 Outpost at Camp Navarro

So excited to attend 2018 Outpost at Camp Navarro that will be a weekend of workshops, panels and experiences that will blow my mind! I want to get back to me so when I was offered an invite I jumped at the chance to have the opportunity to get to nature and learn about life. For me this is going to be an adventure of ‘firsts’ starting with driving across California to Navarro! I’ve never driven more than three hours so am very excited that I’ll be in the new Nissan Kicks that will be good on gas, has all the tech bells and

whistles a plugged in person like me needs in a stylish crossover that will be fun to drive! Another first is going to be out in nature for more than one night am still trying to figure out what to bring since Outpost supplies gourmet meals, an open bar and accommodation but when your a curvy plus sized woman like myself finding athletic leisure wear that will be able to stand almost four days of activities in my size will be a challenge! I’ve decided to not wait til the last minute so am getting my ‘go bag’ ready with a few Lane Bryant purchases (comfy bra/new undies) as well as looking at a few lines that have clothing that is heavy duty but still comfortable.

Image result for camp navarroI’m not sure what 2018 Outpost (Sept 6-9) will bring but if it’s anything like what happened at 2017 Outpost it’s going to be legendary! Here‘s a vid from last year to get you curiosity and adventurous spirit yearning for the great outdoors. I’m excited to attend the private VIP dinner on Thursday night to meet fellow influencers and attendees to discuss what are on our ‘Bucket Outpost List’. I know I have my eye on the falconry, drone-flying class and sound bath (what IS that!). Watching last years video has me so excited to push past my ‘city’ chick limits and awaken my outdoor crunchy adventurous woman who just might howl at the moon one night. Outpost is the perfect introduction to the wild woman/man within with the 3 day outdoor experience as I explore a more active lifestyle and get to know myself a little better.Outpost Trade Retreat at Camp Navarro
