Natalie Maines, the Dixie Chicks and Music Love

Spread the love

I can’t say enough how much I LOVE the Dixie Chicks and Natalie! They are my GIRLS … GRRRLLSSS!

I’m excited that Natalie has her own CD coming out but when will the Dixie Chicks get back in the studio and get country rocking????

Now I’m sure many remember the epic fallout when the Dixie Chicks while in London commented on President Bush’s policies (his dishonesty, starting a war for no good reason, not supporting all Americans but just a chosen few, etc) that derailed their career in Country Music and was a major attack on them personally as well as substantial earning loss. But like strong women everywhere they stood their ground and didn’t back down. As time went on they were proved right but for their core Country Audience they had done the unforgivable sin of not being ‘blindly loyal’ to a Republican President. Of course being a progressive feminist I agreed with them and it cemented my love of the band. Natalie had me the first time I heard her voice singing of love, heartbreak and trying to live but had my heart when l learned her politics aligned with my own!

But now it looks like they are getting ready to start touring (limited) and shaking the cobwebs off before blessing their fans with new original music in a few years.

I’m not sure if I can separate my love of the band with Natalie’s outspoken support for progressive politics and really I don’t want to since it enriches my joy in listening to their music and my imagination thinking how they choose and write their music.
