Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters isn’t the only MonsterVerse action the world can get this week. Return to Skull Island, the trade paperback collecting the 4-comic series from Titan Comics in one complete book is also now available!
The book, which continues the story from the Netflix Skull Island series that was discontinued after one season, starts IMMEDIATELY where the TV series left off. Kong and the giant sea Kraken have battled, wounding Kong. The show’s protagonist Charlie has been taken by the mysterious “Islanders,” and Mike and Annie have been taken back to the mainland, and must find a way to return.
Writer Simon Furman and artist Christopher Jones capture the look and feel of the series. It’s nice to see drawn characters on the page that look identical to their TV animated counterparts. It makes you feel as if you are watching a second season of the show told through those still images. There have been many canceled television shows from my past that I wish could have continued the adventures of my favorites characters in comic book form.
I should also mention the book’s colorist Charlie Kirchoff. The bright and vibrant colors pull you into the story and help the reader feel like they are back in that animated world.
I won’t spoil the story, but let’s just say that there are monsters, there is danger, there is fighting, and there is conflict. And…..there is a cliffhanger.
The first few issues of Titan Comics’ sequel Escape From Skull Island are now available as well. 2026 is a good year for MonsterVerse lovers.
